Rose POV
The bell rang, and Phoebe and I parted ways. I walked into History, making my way to Ms. Schneider’s desk while I took her drink out of the carrier and set it on her desk. She looked up with a small smile.
“Good morning Rose. How are you, sweetie?” Ms. Tiana Schneider is 32 years-old and she is like the big sister I never had. Her strawberry-blonde hair is pulled back into a simple bun and her freckles look so cute when the sun is shining on them. She’s one of my favorite teachers because she actually cares about people and loves to make sure that they are okay and feeling happy. Phoebe and I are the only ones who call her by first name and don’t get in trouble for it. Of course, we’re smart and only use her first name when it’s just us three but it’s funny as hell to watch other students get their ass’ handed to them when they do it instead of us.
“Well 1. I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘good morning’ today; it’s just… Meh. 2. I am.. EXHAUSTED! And 3. I don’t want to go to work today.” I sighed and her smile slipped a bit as she stood up and gave me a big hug.
“What happened, darling? Are you ok?” I laughed at her need to be protective over us students; she’s like a big sister to everyone even though she refuses to admit it to anyone but me and Phoebe; again, we are her favorites.
“I’m fine, Tia. Nothing happened but the usual stuff that goes on in my life. I’m used to it all by now.” I gave her a small smile as she held me at arms length and stared at me.
“Are you sure your ok, Rose? You look tired, like really tired. I can write a note to the nurse and ask her to lend you one of the beds so you can rest for the day before you have to go to work.. You know I have no problem doing that for you, right?”
“Yes I know, Tia. I also know that you would let me skip class just so that I could sleep but I’ve told you multiple times that I can’t skip any classes. No matter how bad I want to.” she sighed.
“Ok well just thought I would give it a try, even after I know how stubborn you can be. Your body needs sleep, honey. If you keep this up, you’re going to wear down your body by the time you 25.” Here we go; I sighed and leaned against her desk. “You’re 16, Rose. You should be out having fun with your friends, thinking about boys; all the stuff teenagers do and think. You shouldn’t have to work any jobs at your age, but sadly this is the world we live in where kids do in fact have to work even if they shouldn’t be.”
“I’m fine Tia, I promise. You know I would never do anything that would endanger my life in any way, shape, or form.” I said sarcastically which earned me a small smile from her.
“Okay now you’re just making fun of me, you brat.” we stared at each other for a few moments before we busted out laughing. After a few seconds, I could hear students making their ways to their classrooms and realized I forgot to ask Tiana if I could sit in the back. I started to ask the question when she holds a hand up in front of my face and I stare at it before she speaks.
“Yes you can sit in the back. Of course it’s alright. I always know when you want something because you always bring me stuff to bribe me with.” she creeps me out when she already knows what I’m going to say; that and I hate it when she has already figured me out… Damn; well time to come up with a new way of bribing. I smiled and and hugged her before grabbing my drink and my backpack, making my way to the back of the room and picking a spot in the far corner as students started to walk in and sit down.
I put my head down and played on my phone, waiting for the bell to ring to start class. I yawned and rubbed my eyes as I pulled my drink in front of my mouth, too lazy to hold it up. I raise my head slightly and meet Tia’s eyes for a second. I can see that she is worried about me not getting any sleep but it doesn’t matter what I do to try to fix my sleep schedule; it won’t do anything in the end. I give her a smile and a thumbs up as I take a big gulp of my drink; watching as she does that same. By now, the classroom is almost filled with students and I look back down at my phone. I was scrolling through f*******: when I felt someone standing next to me. I ignored them and continued scrolling on my phone when the bell rang. I groaned and put my phone in my jacket pocket before pulling my textbook and notebook in front of me. I reached for my drink only for it to be pulled away from me by the guy sitting next to me. Oh, really? I reached for it and it was pulled further away from me. Getting frustrated, I turned my head to yell at the asshole, who apparently has a death wish and wants it fulfilled by me, only to stop short at who it was. I groaned and held my hand out; waiting for him to hand over my safe haven.
“Hello gorgeous.”
“f**k off, Drake. I’m not in the mood to deal with you. Now give me my drink back.”
“Why should I after you were just so mean to me in the parking lot; ignoring me and pushing me, that’s not nice at all.”
“You wouldn’t know nice if it bit you in the ass. My drink. While I’m asking nicely.”
“If you say please, maybe I’ll consider giving it to you. You might want to hurry or I’m going to keep it all to myself and drink it.” I drew in a breath and held it as I fully turned my head to him. He’s already seen my face this morning so what the hell, right?
“You wouldn’t dare” He smiled at me before bringing the drink a couple inches from his mouth
“Try me” he wouldn’t really do it... Would he? Knowing him; the guy who gets everything and everybody he wants, he most likely would. I sighed and closed my eyes before muttering a quick curse. I took a deep breath, opened my eyes and tried to sound as nice as possible.
“Please can I have my drink back, Drake? Pretty Please?” I saw him lean towards me and was happy that it worked before he whispered to me,
“Anything for you, sweetheart. And just so you know, I was going to give it back to you no matter what. I just wanted to see if you actually say please or not.” I rolled my eyes before grabbing my drink from him. Our hands brushed and it felt like sparks shot through my hand and up my arm, causing a shiver to run down my spine. My eyes flew to look into his and it looked like he was in a daze. What the f**k was that? We stared at each other until the final bell rang, letting us know classes have officially started and scaring the s**t out me at the same time. I jumped in my seat before blinking and turning to face the front of the classroom. I moved my drink so that it was on the other side of me and out of Drake’s reach as I tried to listen to Tia talk about what we were going to be learning for the week; keyword being tried.
I tried to focus but couldn’t, no matter how much I tried. My mind kept going to the sparks I felt when Drake’s and mine hands brushed together; my hand was tingling as the sparks started to fade away. I could feel him staring at me and it was becoming uncomfortable. I took a deep breath as I wrote on the piece a paper I opened to take notes on today’s topic:
Me~ Stop staring at me; it’s uncomfortable.
Drake~ I can’t help it. You’re so beautiful.
Me~ No, I’m not. Now stop staring at me, please.
Drake~ I’ll consider it on one condition.
Me~ Sigh and what’s that?
Drake~ You have to share your drink with me.
Me~ No way in hell!!!
Drake~ Then I’m going to continue staring at you until the end of the day.
Me~ Ugh!! Fine!! I’ll share it with you but you better keep your word and not stare at me anymore!! Nevermind; you’ll still stare at me no matter what I say or do, so what’s the point?
Drake~ You’re learning; good. Now, drink please.
I softly groaned as I moved the drink so it was between the both of us again. I watched as his fingers wrapped around the drink, brought it up to his mouth and taking a big drink before setting it back down.
“Damn… That’s really good!! What’s the name of it?” a laugh made its way past my lips; I couldn’t tell if he was just asking to be polite or actually wanting to know just for the hell of it.
“It’s called an Aquaberry Rebel. It’s my favorite.”
“What’s in it? Do you know?”
“Uh… I think Jaz said the flavors in it are Watermelon, Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, and…. Kiwi? Yeah. Those are the flavors.”
“Hmm I’m not really of fan of kiwi but if it’s in this, then I will be more than happy to drink it.”
“I’m not a fan of kiwi either so I feel.”
About halfway into the class, I got over the devil himself sharing my drink. I didn’t entirely get over it but I can’t really do anything about it now since it’s almost gone between the both of us. Through out class, Drake and I have been writing messages back and forth basically just talking about random stuff here and there. It’s very… interesting talking to the resident bad boy without being afraid. It’s definitely a new experience that’s for sure. By the time the class was over, I feel like I was closer to him then I am to my parents but him and Fee definitely know more about me then my parents could even care to know.
The bell rang, dismissing class.
“Ok guys, your homework packets are on the edge of my desk. Make sure to grab one and I’ll see you on Wednesday.” I gathered my stuff up before getting up to walk up and grab one before I realized that I couldn’t go anywhere. Everyone has already grabbed a packet and is making their way out of the classroom leaving Tia, myself and Drake; who hasn’t moved despite everyone leaving. I cleared my throat and tapped his shoulder.
“Uh Drake? Can you let me out please? I have to get to my next class.” He looked up at me and smiled but didn’t move. “Drake, please.”
“I love it when you say my name, say it again.” I rolled my eyes before sitting on the table and swinging my legs over before making my way to the front. Tia handed me a packet and nodded her head. I smiled at her, walk out and get to my next class just as the bell rings. I find a seat and fall into it as I breathe a sigh of relief that I wasn’t late all because of Drake f*****g Stokes.
