Chapter 7: Grayson's dilemma

Grayson’s pov:    I rang the doorbell of my home and waited a couple of seconds in the outside before the massive doors opened wide open. I was greeted by my mother who was excited to see me home. She gave me a tight hug as took my first step into the house. This what she would always do. I enjoyed her care and concern for me.    After a hard day of work, a warm welcome to my home really made all the difference. My mother came up to me with a smile but her smile soon morphed into a questionable look. “Grayson, what is this?” she gasped as she pointed her finger at the coffee stain on my suit. I lowered my head to see the dark stain and was immediately reminded about that clumsy girl.    Memories of her bumping into my mind which started to get me annoyed. Her attitude was unacceptable and I had never been so insulted and embarrassed in my life! But thanks to her, it became a reality.     “Nothing, mom. Just some clumsy newbie at the office.” I shrugged the situation away from me. I did not want to discuss about that incident anymore as my mind was already over it. I did not want to ruin my evening because of that.     I tried to leave the living room and head upstairs to get into the shower but I felt an grip on my arm as I took one step ahead. I turned my eyes to the side and saw my mother standing with an enraged face. Her eyes were filled with disgust. My mother was very protective of me ever since I was young. Even if I got one scratch on me, she would not spare the thing or person who did it to me.     It was a fairly sweet gesture from her but sometimes it felt a bit over the top. I turned myself around to face her and look at her in the eye. I took her hand’s grip off of my arm and wrapped my hands around it. I formed a smile on my face and said, “Mom, what happened? Everything is fine.”     I wanted her to understand and let me go but that was not what she had in mind. She pulled her hand out of mine and narrowed her eyes at me. I could see how angry she was.     “Who did this? I’ll teach him a lesson.” she threatened with an angry tone in her voice. As she was getting upset by this matter, I decided to give in and give her all the details. Anyways, it was because of that girl that I, a hugely successful person, got humiliated by many people on the road today. Why should I protect her from my mother’s rage? If anything, she deserved it. And my mother had the right to do whatever she thought was right to her. After all, a mother knows best.    “It was not a he, but a she.” I said with a sly voice. The both of us sat comfortably in the couches of the living room. One of our servants came in and handed us a glass of fresh fruit juice. I placed it on the table in front of me and continued to describe the situation to my mother.     “So, I was on my way to carry out the interviews of the new employees today. But then there was this girl who was... like mesmerized by the chandelier of the lobby. She did not look and we bumped. My coffee fell on the both of us...” I kept on explaining the entire situation till the end.     My mother gasped as I finished talking, “That girl... you should fire her before even employing her. You should have not even given her a second chance. Such people don’t deserve success.”     I nodded my head in agreement with her, “Yeah, you’re right. Well, I did what I could now. I’m really tired... I’ll go and take a shower.” I excused myself and left to go to my room.     My mother still did not seem happy. Anger was still filled in her veins for that girl. I could not imagine what she would do if she met her upfront.     I opened the door of my room and placed the lock. I turned the shower knob and let the water fill the tub. I took off all my clothes and slipped my naked body into the warm water. I rested my muscular arms on the sides of the tub and rested still.     After taking my shower, I walked out of my bathroom with just my towel covering my waist and below. I stood in front of the mirror and adjusted my wet hair. I was quite proud of my physique. My abs were revealed while my biceps were pumping. All those hours of working out paid off.     I dressed in a causal shirt and pant and went straight to my work place. I had a few papers to review before heading off to bed. My sleep schedule was never normal. Whenever work called, I was ready to attend it, no matter how tired or frustrated I was.     A small lamp shined a yellow light on my study desk in my room. I began to flip through some files and signed each page as I went. Soon, I saw a very familiar picture on one of the documents on the desk.    I pulled that document out of its folder and scanned through it. The photo was super familiar as it was that same girl’s application form. My eyes went straight to her name... Avery Williams...    What a usual girl she was. I did not know what was about her but deep inside I wanted to give her a second chance. I would have instantly banned such people from my company but I did not know what took over my mind to go back to her. It was strange...     I took her picture out of the document and stared at it, trying to decipher what was so special about her. Surely, something must be there... I wanted to fire her instantly but at the same time I did not want to.     I would have to see what she would do in the interview tomorrow...
