“Wh-why is it deserted?” I asked feeling a little scared.
“Are you really this dense, Miss Williams?” he asked with a angry tone in his voice.
I shook my head and stuttered, “Wha-wh-what do you mean?”
“Don’t you know what time my office opens up?” he asked annoyed.
I raised my head and tried to go back in time when I had read Mr Grayson’s office website. And that’s when it struck me that it wad clearly mentioned that his office which was would open at 10 which was about 2 hours from now. Mia, Piper and Jake and I were the only employees who had to work a little earlier.
Anyways, I tried to limit eye contact with Mr Grayson as I was feeling a bit embarrassed about forgetting the office timings of my own work place.
“Ding” the elevator door opened up and revealed the dark office area which was slightly illuminated by the elevator’s light.
After Mr Grayson switched the lights on, I was able to take a good look of the place which looked like any typical office with computers placed on rows of long tables which had a board separating each of the computers so that each employee would have their own personal space.
There were a few plants which I knew were fake after I felt the plastic coating on the leaves.
Mr Grayson walked up to what seemed like his cabin which was surrounded by glass doors and away from the employees workspace. He placed the contract I drafted onto his glass table and started walking away out of his cabin.
As he was walking he instructed me to gather the missing details of the company that were not available in the files he had given me last night.
A huge filing cabinet was standing at the right of his table and it contained numerous files placed in alphabetical order.
It was so organised that I was able to find the file I needed in seconds! I really wished my life was this sorted out. But as long as Katie was present in my life, I knew that was not going to happen.
It was impossible! It felt like me attempting to catch a cloud.
I gave out a little yawn while going through the file alone in the huge cabin. Rising early in the morning was not my cup of tea! I needed a couple more of hours of sleep but I knew Mr Grayson would kill me if I were to sleep in.
Speaking of Mr Grayson, I had no idea where he was. The area was pretty silent or maybe too silent to the point where it was almost creepy.
I looked through the glass doors of the cabin and scanned the area but I was unable to locate Mr Grayson.
Just then, I witnessed the entire room turn pitch black. I let out a scream and frantically tried to find the light switch.
I placed my hands onto the wall trying to feel the switch. However when I finally had found the switch, the lights failed to turn on.
I kept on flipping the switch but to no avail. “Sir?” I screamed trying to get Mr Grayson’s attention.
I was hoping that since the power was cut off, Mr Grayson should not have been in the elevator or else he would be stuck there, leaving me afraid here.
I repeatedly called out to him but had no response. Every passing minute, the place turned creepier and creepier with odd sounds playing in various places.
I held my hands close to my chest and stood in one position, hoping that by some miracle the lights would come on.
God, why did Mr Grayson have to install heavy duty blinders on the windows, blocking the little sunlight that was present outside?!
I felt a slight touch on my elbow all of a sudden to which I turned myself around and screamed, “Help!”
Just as I was screaming a hand was placed onto my mouth, preventing me from screaming.
I tried to break myself from the grip but whoever was holding me had a lot of strength!
“Stop stop!” I heard in a voice that sounded like Mr Grayson’s voice.
I stopped screaming and resisting as instructed but was left super confused when the lights turned themselves on and I saw Mr Grayson standing right in front of me with his hand on my mouth.
This scene reminded me of last night’s scene and like before my heart was beating through the roof.
I never knew why my body seemed to react this way when I was close to Mr Grayson! Maybe it was because I was never familiar with being this close to a guy in my life except dad.
Mr Grayson released his grip from my mouth and started to smile but not in a happy way like something joyful happened but more like an evil smile.
“Got you!” he whispered in my ears.
I popped my eyes out when I heard that. Did he really just turn the lights off to scare me? Was he like 5?
“Sir, are you serious? You are not a kid!” I said in a slightly louder voice than usual.
He scoffed and replied, “Well I wasn’t the one scared of the dark now, was I ?!”
Well I guess he was right but that doesn’t exclude the fact that his actions were indeed childish. What did I do to deserve such a boss? I really wished Katie would get her karma soon for putting me in this situation.
“Grab the contract and let’s head home.” He instructed.
I nodded and went ahead and grabbed the contract immediately from the table and followed him to the elevator.
The car journey was silent and calm. I never felt so at peace since taking up this job.
We reached Mr Grayson’s home and he immediately walked up stairs while I slowly walked towards my room, playing a game on my phone.
As I was about to open the door by turning the handle, a hand caught my hand and ripped its grip from the handle.
Who was it?
