Chapter 15: Grayson's Game (Part 1)

1357 Words
I turned around to find out who was standing behind me. My nervous meter shot through the roof as my head slowly turned towards the person behind me.     There, I popped my eyes wide open when I saw Mia slyly smiling behind me. She turned her eyes towards Mr Grayson’s room and took a good look at them.     “Eavesdropping is not something that Mr. Grayson likes you know!” she smirked.     At that point I knew she was up to no good and was about to snitch on me. I wondered what her problem was! I really only just met her for a day or two and she already has such a huge issue with me?     I never intended to get in the way of her obsession with Mr Grayson. I absolutely had no interest in him or anyone in the house. I just wanted to work and earn money.     “Listen, can you mind your own business? You will be happier in life.” I said smartly to which her reaction wasn’t a pleasant one.     “I think you should practice what you preach.” she replied.     She really wasn’t wrong there but I didn’t know why I had the urge to eavesdrop on Mr Grayson myself.     Mia took one foot forward and placed her pointer finger in front of my face.     “Remember one thing, I will make Mr Grayson mine! And anyone who stands in my way will be crushed.” she warned.     I didn’t say anything and just stood silently until she walked away after bumping me in the shoulder. Jeez, how crazy in love is she with Mr Grayson?     I really didn’t understand what was so special in him! Sure he was handsome and rich but that was it! No kindness, care or sympathy he had for other people and that to me mattered the most in a guy.     I never would love yet alone marry a self centred person like him ever in my life. Mia could keep him all to himself, I didn’t care a damn.     As I was despising Mr Grayson in my thoughts, I suddenly heard his exact voice coming from behind me.     “Miss Williams?”     I gulped the saliva in my mouth, I knew I was busted at this point. Only God knew what he would do if he found out I was listening to his conversation.     “S-ss-sir” I stuttered as I feared the unknown reaction that he was about to give.     “What are you doing here?” he asked.     I looked down staring at the contract in my hand and had a huge smile appear on my face.     “Here is the contract.” I said while extending my hand forward with the contract in hand.     He snatched the paper out of my mind which was really the most extra thing to do. Why couldn’t he just take them gently like a normal person would? Then again, he was the one and only Mr Arrogant.     After flipping through every single page and reading past every single word I had jotted down, he looked up at me with a very neutral face and said, “Let’s go!”    I squinted when I heard his order, where were we going? What was going on his mind?     “To the office, in case you were wondering, Miss Williams” he added.     Well I mean there wasn’t any need to worry anymore but I knew Mia was going to rage when she finds out I went with Mr Grayson to his office.     I followed him as he walked outside to his parking lot which had about four cars parked neatly in a row.     Two of them were black, one was red and the other was white. All of them shined greatly and looked so polished.     I stared widely at the cars and wished to own one of them some day. I questioned why Mr Grayson needed four cars for himself but he didn’t listen and went ahead and unlocked one black car.     He sat behind the car and inserted the key into the ignition and I heard the car’s engine start.     The car’s passenger seat opened up and he yelled, “Get in”     I thought to myself, “I didn’t want to sit next to him”     Sitting next to him in a car was going to be the most awkward thing to do, considering what all he had done to me. But I knew if I objected he would start another scandal.   So I obediently went ahead and sat myself in the seat next to him.     He looked at me with his sparkly eyes before driving the car out of the parking lot.     Considering how close he was to me, my heart started beating quick. I didn’t know exactly why. Was it because I was scared of him or because I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with the way he came close to me last night.     I pulled out my phone and plugged in my earphones to listen to a few songs until we reached the office.     Right as the best part of the song was about to begin, Mr Grayson yanked out the earphones from ears.     “Ow!” I screeched.     “You aren’t going for a party you know, start reading the contract you drafted again, I pointed out some errors in them.”  he rebuked.     I took the contract out of the file that he placed on my lap and opened it to find numerous red inked circles around many pages.     “Sir, so many red marks?” I asked worriedly.     I didn’t expect to see this many! Did I really write that bad?    “If you are going to write pathetically, what did you expect to see? Stars?” he rebuked once again.     I apologised as this time, it really wasn’t a showcase of arrogance and he was right! I looked over my mistakes and face palmed myself.     How could I make such idiotic errors?    As I was rewriting the contract in the car, feeling motion sickness as I wasn’t used to concentrating on something in a moving vehicle, the car suddenly halted.         As the car suddenly halted in one position, the pen slipped from my hand when I jerked from my seat. Luckily the seat caught me before I could slam my head onto the dashboard.     This is why you should always wear you seatbelt.     Anyways, I looked up to Mr Grayson to see him packing up his stuff.      “We reached.” he said before opening up his door and getting out of his seat.     I navigated my eyes towards the left to find a huge building decorated with glass windows at every floor. It rose up towards the sky and had Mr Grayson’s name carved out of a wooden plate on the middle section of the building.     I rolled my eyes and gave a light scoff to show my annoyance at Mr Grayson. Did he really abruptly pull the breaks of the car? For what? I really don’t get this guy.    I picked my pen quickly under the seat of the car and ran to catch up with Mr Grayson, fearing he would snap if I was left behind.     When the automatic doors slid open, we were met with darknesses surrounding the entire floor. As Mr Grayson walked inside, the room echoed his footsteps until he stopped and looked behind to see me still standing at the entrance.     “Do you want me to pick you up and get you here?” he yelled.     His shout echoed and hit me as hard as a rock that I immediately ran up towards him. As we kept on walking towards the elevator of the building, I noticed it was functional.     I was so confused why there were no employees and why the lights were not on.
