Chapter 17: The Meeting

1051 Words
I turned my head around to see who was holding my hand and was shocked to find Mia standing right next me with a face burning with rage.    “Mia?” I whispered, not wanting to alert anyone in the house.    She, instead of responding and explaining herself, tightened her grip on my hand which started to in turn hurt me a lot. The pressure on my delicate skin was too much to handle.   “Mia, its hurting!” I yelled in a calmer voice, still not trying to alert anyone.    “You should have thought about that before accompanying Mr Grayson to the office!” she rebuked.   When I heard that, I remembered expecting such a thing happening when Mr Grayson ordered me to go with him to the office. God, why is this girl such a psycho? Why does she think I would steal him from her? I do not have a single care for him.    “If he told me to do so, how could I refuse?!” I asked in a breathless voice as the pain in my hand intensified.    Luckily, she then released my hand, leaving a red bruise near the wrist.    “Well next time you better refuse or ask him to let me come along or I will hurt you even more!” she threatened and walked away.    I watched as she walked away in her heeled-up legs. I dusted myself and unlocked my room, only to hear “Miss Williams!” from behind me.    I rolled my eyes and turned myself to find Mr Grayson dressed up handsomely in a brown coloured suit. He was well groomed and had a bright perfume scent surrounding him.    “Get dressed, Miss Williams, the CEO of the company is arriving soon!” he said.    I was shocked when he declared this to me. “So soon?” I asked frustrated.    He nodded before leaving the area. I rolled my eyes once again as I was tired with dealing so much and it was only noon! Oh, how my life was so much simpler working in a restaurant.    I reluctantly wore my business suit and gathered all the files needed and headed up to the meeting room which was located next to the study room.      There I saw Mr Grayson standing against the sunlight that were penetrating through the glass windows.    We both took our seats and reviewed our contract until the CEO arrived at the house.    The clock was ticking by, but the CEO did not arrive until an hour later. The wait basically killed me. Sitting alone with Mr Grayson in a room was really intimidating and I could not be at peace for a single second.    At last, when the CEO arrived in a pale ochre suit, he greeted us with a smile and a handshake. He was quite young and had a much relaxing vibe than Mr Grayson.    The three of us sat down while Mia entered the room with a tray filled with snacks and drinks just for Mr Nestor, the CEO of Nestor Corp.    After placing the tray on the wooden table, Mia walked around and sat next to me, giving me a smile, which obviously seemed fake as hell. I squinted and tried to ignore her for the time.   After a minute of silence, Mr Grayson began discussing the contract in such a bold manner. He was much more confident than I ever was.    Whenever Mr Nestor would try to change or negotiate a point in the contract, Mr Grayson would stand his ground and try to persuade him to accept that point no matter what. And it did work most of the time! No wonder he was such a successful billionaire.    Though he was quite arrogant and messed up, I aspired to take on the business side of him. He really had a way with words. If he were to ask me to sell my company that way, I would have agreed in a second!   But Mr Nestor too was a great businessman and that is why he would often question or argue about certain conditions of the contract.    Everything was going surprisingly good until the subject changed to the percentage of shares of the company. Mr Nestor wanted a lot more share of the company than what Mr Grayson was offering.    “This is my final offer!” Mr Grayson declared, not budging to change his offer.   After a lot of back-and-forth arguments between the two, Mia got up from her seat after silently witnessing the situation and started to bring a lot more insight into the benefits of taking up Mr Grayson’s offer.    It took a while, but Mia really helped change Mr Nestor’s decision and the papers were signed! I just sat there amazed! I never saw this side of Mia ever.    Once Mr Nestor left the room with a smile on his face, Mia started to receive a praise from Mr Grayson.    But one thing I had noticed about the praise was that it felt emotionless like he was reluctant to do so. Regardless of that, Mia looked extremely excited to receive that name’s sake praise.    As I was stacking up the papers from the table, my head raised when I heard the door open again.   Mrs Wright walked in happily and went straight up to Mia who looked a bit confused.    Mrs Wright looked happier than usual, and I wondered why?    “Mia I am so proud of you!” she said.    I squinted, wondering why she was suddenly praising her. She had her hand over Mia shoulder and bought her in close for a hug.    “Mom, what’s going on?” Mr Grayson asked in a slight annoyed tone.   His mother released Mia from the hug and went up to Mr Grayson and titled her head a bit, saying, “Nestor told me how Mia convinced him to sign the contract before he left.”   Mr Grayson narrowed his eyebrows in confusion and wanted to speak up, but his mother did not allow him to do so.   He was scratching his head when suddenly Mrs Wright added, “Look at Mia, she is smart, talented and beautiful! Why don’t you marry her?”
