I walked out of my house, all decked up and ready to go. I took in a breath of the fresh air but my face was not as fresh or bright as it usually was.
I waved goodbye to Katie and dad while catching a taxi to the next city.
The bright sunny day eased the tension that was building up inside me. I was quite nervous about this interview as a lot was at stake! More than I could imagine. I had no choice but to ace it!
Hours passed before I reached the next city, during the journey, I was quite fascinated by watching the tall skyscrapers passing by. It was a good distraction from my tensed situation.
The city didn’t look too bad but the thought of being far away from my home filled me up with sorrow. I was desperate to be happy but the sadness outweighed it.
While in the taxi, I practised speaking professionally to myself to avoid any embarrassment once I reached there. It was a first and important interview. The first impression is always the last so making myself look good was key and essential.
But I didn’t make things better for myself as the taxi driver kept giving me weird looks whenever I practised my introduction.
I looked at the driver through the mirror and gave a nervous smile. Gladly, he didn’t seem to care that much so I kept practising but this time in my mind.
As soon as we reached the destination, I was amazed at the building where the interview was being held.
It was tall and huge and had a silver coating of paint. It was located in the middle of the upscale urban city. My jaw dropped to the floor as I had never even been close to such buildings, let alone going inside them.
Being a billionaire, this building wouldn’t have dented his wallet even the slightest.
An enormous board with the name, “Grayson Wright Corp” in gold letters, covered the front of the building.
“Grayson Wright?!” Have I heard that name somewhere? Maybe I’m just overthinking.
Upon entering the building through the automatic sliding doors, I was amazed by the interior decoration of the huge lobby.
The lobby was adorned with sleek, metallic finishes like stainless steel, glass and chrome.
Wooden canvas filled the room carrying art and paintings like animal prints, geometric shapes etc.
The colours of the room were vibrant and filled my eyes. The chilling air of the multiple air conditioners blew my face, giving me a comforting feel.
I was bursting with excitement on the inside but I didn’t want to act like a three-year-old in front of employees that worked for a billionaire!
From working in a small restaurant to getting a job in a billionaire’s company as a sales manager? How did I end up here? I was amazed.
Well, of course there would be a few steps before I would achieve the status of a sales manager but that’s besides the point...
My little session of talking to myself was cut short when a woman dressed up in a black turtle neck and a white skirt approached me.
She had tiny round gold earrings which were hanging from her earlobes. Her blond hair was set free, flowing onto her shoulders and her face was heavily coated with makeup.
“May I help you?” she inquired.
”Uh uh” I kept stuttering initially due to the combination of her sudden appearance and my nervousness.
She gave me a weird look and I would never blame her for that. I looked like a mess.
After a few attempts, I finally spoke up! But made an embarrassment of myself instantly!
Instead of speaking like a normal person, I spoke like an illiterate fool by replying in only one word, “Interview”!
I wondered why was it so hard to just say “Hello! I’m here to attend an interview.”
I was positive she must have been thinking the same.
“Oh ok, now its time for lunch so people are on break, I suggest you wait in the lounge until the break gets over,” she suggested before marching away.
I sighed in relief and proceeded to walk ahead towards the lounge.
On my way there, I noticed that a huge chandelier covered almost half the ceiling. The lights were pretty much sparkling like a diamond. My eyes immediately were captured by this sight.
I was so mesmerised by this that while walking, I was simultaneously watching the chandelier, not looking at the path I was walking in.
Suddenly, I partially tripped over a piece of decoration that was lying on the floor before bumping into a guy who was attired in a suit.
To make matters worse, the coffee that he had in hand, spilt onto the both of use, soaking our clothes and staining it a dark brown hue.
Oh, how I wanted to cry so bad!
I was so nervous that I didn’t say a word to the guy. Instead, I pulled out a bag of tissue paper and shared some with him.
I started wiping some of the coffee from my clothes while speaking my mind out in front of the guy.
“I’m so sorry. Wow, who on earth, keeps a decor in the middle of the floor? Being a billionaire, that guy is absolutely clueless!” I exclaimed out of anger.
“Oh really? Is he that clueless?” the guy asked.
“Seriously! I mean… he seems like an i***t!” I replied.
As soon as I prevented the majority of the coffee from soaking into my suit, I looked up towards the man whom I bumped.
His bright blue eyes, chiseled jaw and fluffy brown hair made me gulp.
I continued staring at him but couldn’t say a word. It was almost like I was in some sort of spell.
The guy waved his hands across my face to try and snap me out!
As soon as I returned to earth, I was greeted with the biggest shock of my life. I looked behind the guy, only to find a picture of the same guy with the name “Grayson Wright” written underneath it.
I popped my eyes and saw that he had a smirk on his face. I knew I was in deep trouble at this point.
“I-“ I opened my mouth to try and make things right, but he immediately raised his hand and gestured to stop!
My heart was beating so fast that I felt it was going to explode into a million pieces. This job was so important to me and ruining everything just before the interview could even commence was such a horrible mistake on my part.
“You’re here for an interview, right?” he asked in his deep toned voice.
My body tensed up, I felt like an elementary student getting yelled at by their teacher but this time, a lot more was at stake. My parents and my life!
“Y-yes” I stuttered so badly before he interrupted me again.
“Yes… you can leave!” he nodded his head in a slow motion before leaving the premises and towards his car.
I chased him down, I couldn’t afford to get rejected so quick! Especially when the interview never even happened!
I rushed out of the lobby to find Grayson beginning to sit inside his car once his driver opened the door for him with his white gloved hands.
What was I going to do? I couldn’t let him get away without even attempting to get my chance at the job back! But what can I do to convince him?
