Chapter 10: Revenge Is Bitter

1514 Words
I saw Mr Grayson walking up towards us with a neutral look on his face. His sharp appearance gave me goosebumps. I was afraid of what more was to come.     His combed black fluffy hair bounced as he walked, his suit enhanced the chiseled shape of his body while his silver watch complimented his entire outfit.    Mrs Wright unlocked her grip from my hand, leaving a slight red marking on my arm and turned around to face Mr Grayson while I kept rubbing the reddened portion of my arm to ease the slight pain I was feeling.    “Mom what were you doing?” he asked with a straight face. I felt weirded out seeing how calm he was at this situation.     She raised her head a second after he questioned her and began to justify...    “This shameless girl insulted you and ruined your entire suit... and yet had the audacity to come here?”     I lowered my head in shame as I started reliving the embarrassing incident.     “Mom, you got it all wrong... welcome my new employee!” he said with a smile on his face.    Mrs. Wright looked at him with a shocked look on her face, although it was hovering towards an angered look. It seemed like they both were not on the same page.     She began warning him against hiring me as his employee and belittled me in the open with no hesitation whatsoever.    I listened to her sour comments and it felt as if Katie were here as well. I didn’t want to hear those awful words. It was something I heard most of my life but getting used it was a task.     I wanted to run away but I couldn’t! I had to work no matter what.    My heart was beating at a fast pace as I feared that I would lose my job in a flash if Mr. Grayson were to agree with his mother’s words.    At the very next moment, I heard a pleasant sentence that escaped from Mr. Grayson’s mouth.    “No mom, I won’t fire her and that's my final decision!”     I couldn’t believe what my ears just heard! Was I dreaming? Never in a million years would I even imagine Mr Grayson would let me keep this job. I expected him to side with his mother but that was not the case.    It was obvious that we met on a bumpy start but I wanted to try my best and rectify my past mistakes.    Without any further argument, Mrs Wright rolled her eyes and left the area in a fit. I swear when I say that I never saw anyone, not even Katie who looked so crossed like her.    I was relieved that the mess cleared itself up with Mr. Grayson’s help of course.    I wanted to thank him but my shyness and the embarrassment of the situation didn’t allow me to! So I just kept my mouth shut.    “Come in, Ms. Williams!” he said while walking towards the entrance of the door in a calm manner.    I complied and followed him till the main living room of the mansion.     When I stepped inside, I was greeted with a huge marbled room with white walls painted with abstract arts.     Four huge couches surrounded a wooden coffee table at the centre of the room while a few tables that were located towards the walls of the room had a bunch a lamp that were not switch on as it was early in the morning.     A big carpet covered the middle of the room while a large staircase that led to the top floor of this 2-storey mansion was settled behind the couches.    I was really impressed at how gorgeous the house looked like! Oh, what I would give to live in a house like this, instead of the cruddy little bungalow I lived in.    Mr. Grayson went ahead and bought in with him three different people- a guy and two women who were all dressed in formal clothing like me.    I looked at them with a blank expression on my face as I didn’t know who on earth they were.     “Avery, meet your co-workers Mia, Jake and Piper!”     I stepped forward and introduced myself to the three and shook their hands. I learnt that they were Mr Grayson’s top employees who work closely with him in the company.     Mia seemed to be his manager so as his assistant, I would have to co-ordinate with her a lot. This was a moment to try and make a friend around here.    As I got familiar with the team, Mr Grayson started making an announcement to the four of us. His intense beamy eyes forced us to pay attention. I had never seen someone as cold as him... even Katie had a bit of life in her.     “So, as you all know that tomorrow there will be having an important meeting with a company that I want to buy so ensure that you all are prepared and briefed!”     I was a bit nervous as I never worked in such a nerve-racking job before! Working in a restaurant was a thousand times easier than in a billionaire’s company.    “Avery come; I’ll give you the company’s files to study as you will be preparing the contract.” I heard my boss say as I snapped from my thoughts.    I followed him up the gorgeous staircase to a vast study room that was filled with book shelves and had two computers set up side by side in a corner of the room.    I was amazed at the countless number of books present in the room. I guess Mr. Grayson really liked reading.     He sat down on a white coloured leather couch and smirked at me. I just stood in front of him, obediently.    “Let’s play a little game!” he suggested, spreading his arms across the length of the couch. His leg was placed on top of the other while giving me a mischievous stare. I looked at him with confusion in my eyes.     I immediately replied, “Excuse me?” in a timid voice.    I was so frightened that I gripped my bag super tightly. What was going on in his mind?     What did he mean by a ‘game’?    As I stood still in my spot, he got off from the couch and started walking towards me in a slow pace.    I started walking backwards only to find myself trapped between him and the wall. I literally want to scream but I couldn’t for some reason.    He stood right in front of me and started leaning in with no hesitation.     “Mr Grayson, what are you doing?” I stuttered while trying to avoid his face or even his lips that were coming in close to mine. I was feeling uncomfortable... as I felt his warm breath on my face.     Suddenly he stopped moving and grabbed my wrist with his left hand and pulled it towards him.    Just then he handed me a cup that looked like it was filled to the brim with dark black coffee. I could not understand his intentions at all.     “Remember what you did to me yesterday?” he asked while still being in leaning position.    I remembered yesterday’s events as if it happened a second ago. I was feeling very nervous at that point. But why was he talking about it? Was he going to take revenge? I was imagining all the worse possible things he could do to me.    The next thing I heard from his mouth was “Drink it!”    I narrowed my eyebrows and made eye contact with him. His icy cold look gave me chills. I didn’t want to drink it as I hated black coffee. It was the nastiest thing to ever exist on this planet. The cup he had was as huge as it could be. I did not want to force myself to drink that nasty burning hot liquid.    I shook my head and denied his order to which, he added, “You look very sleepy! If I give you the files, you would not be able to concentrate so you better drink this.”    I was put in a tight spot after he said that. I wanted to blame him for my sleepiness! I had to wake up at 4am to come for work for God’s sake.    I looked at the coffee and gagged once I smelt its bitter fumes. I couldn’t make myself drink this concoction.    “Mr Grayson, I can’t drink this.” I stated while placing the cup onto a table.    After I tried to walk away, he got up and threatened in a calm voice, “Drink it or get fired! It's your choice.”
