I woke to the smell of wet fur, and a heavy warmth at my back. Without opening my eyes, I twitched, and started to roll away, when a rough tongue caught my cheek. Gunnr’s long nose poked me as he licked my face. I wrinkled my nose. He grinned at me, and let out a bark. Arne hastened to my side. “How are you feeling?” he asked, and helped me sit. I did an inventory of my limbs. My body was stiff but nothing hurt. When I told Arne this, he blew out a relieved breath and gave me a cup of mead. “You saved us, Fleur.” I offered a weak smile. “Perhaps the staff is useful, after all.” “Or you’ve finally come into your strength,” Erik crouched close. “Are we still safe here?” “Night has fallen. If there are Berserkers out there, we cannot sense them. We believe the mist led them astray.”
