I Level Up Again

I was doing hurried walks away from the slime – my hand gripping the staff firmly. “I can’t kill that thing! I’m weak to cute things.” “Well, more of them are coming right at you, though,” Nami said. “You cannot keep on running away from these, don’t you think?” True to what she said, more slime came to me – doing jumping-jacks as they left their trails of acid on the floor. One attached itself to my arm and before I knew it, my arm felt hot. I shook off the slime hurriedly. “On second thought, I’m going to blast these monsters to bits,” I said as my arm felt like someone put a lot of hot chili peppers on it. I managed to summon five fireballs and throw it at the slimes. Some of the slimes’ HP bars went to zero. However, a few were not affected at all. “Why aren’t they being affected?” I asked the girls as more slimes came to my direction. “Their bodies are a mixture of liquid and solid properties, Shiro. That means some of them can be a little bit immune from attacks and skills of Fire origin,” Nami answered. I summoned five additional fireballs and threw them at the leaping blobs. “If that’s the case, I have no other choice.” I backed away and kept a distance from the slimes. I focused my mana on the orb’s tip. As quick as a bubble, the tip flared like a welding machine – blue focused flames protruding from the tip and seemed to form a crescent curve. “Mana Blade’s a good choice, Shiro!” Midorima remarked. I held my staff with both of my hands like a sword and advanced on the slimes. I don't know why but I was angry with the deceiving part – probably because I was deceived once or maybe because my first thought of the slimes were cute jelly blobs. Yeah, I’m sure it was the second option. I started hacking on the slimes as they jumped. It wasn’t a hard task. The moment I sliced them, their bodies dissolved. Their HP’s zeroed as I hit them with the Mana Blade. More came my way but I managed to slice them one by one. I enjoyed slicing them to jelly bits, though. It was ten minutes or more than that before all the slimes were lying dead on the floor – their bodies smoking as they slowly dissolved into nothing. “Hey, Shiro,” Nami shouted as she threw a white clean towel at me. “Catch!” I raised my hands but not in time to catch the towel. “Tsk…” I bent down to get the towel. “Good one, Shiro,” Saiko remarked. “You got a good start to your training.” I wiped my face. “Yeah, thanks. I would have had a hard time if those were not basic monsters, though. They were just Level 1 monsters and I’m exhausted.” Nami patted my shoulders. “Everybody starts with problems, Shiro. You’ll get better soon enough.” “But how did you catch those slimes?” I asked. “I didn’t know there were live slimes in our house.” “Don’t worry, we’re not feeding some unusual pets here. Those were just illusions,” Midorima said as she went to the control screen on the wall. She swiped the screen down and up and then left and right, and then pressed some stuff – I don’t know, I was losing the progress. Immediately, after doing the editing-the-room thing, the whole room went back to normal. The TV was now lit to life - turning on by its self and showing the Animal Channel. “Those slimes were just illusionary monsters made of pure mana from high-grade Mana Crystals that the Craftsmen put here,” Midorima continued. “But, they can still hurt and injure you as illusions made by machines need to have a portion of the object to solidify.” Thyme uncapped a small circular container and got some of its contents with two fingers. She put thegreen slimy stuff on my arm. “It would heal in a minute.” I looked at her weirdly. “Don’t worry, this is just aloe vera and honey. I made this in advance.” Notification: You have now leveled up. Notification: Your skill Mana Blade has leveled up. Two separate black square messages popped up in front of me. “Umm…guys, I just leveled up again,” I announced. They looked at me as if I said a giant meteor was speeding its way to Earth. “Umm…is there a problem?” I asked. “If you’re joking, yes, there is,” Saiko answered. “No, I’m serious. I really leveled up,” I said. “Look,” I uttered and showed them the notifications just like last time. They gasped and looked at me again. “This is unbelievable,” Nami said as she read the message the second time just to confirm if what she was reading is real. “What is?” I asked. “You should haven’t been able to level up like that. Even a normal Rank-F Figure levels up after three or four hours of training,” Saiko said. “And not with basic Level 1 monsters like Slimes,” Nami reminded. Saiko nodded. “That’s true, Nami. Would you care to look at your Skills section, Shiro? Your notification here says you leveled up your Mana Blade.” “Okay.” I opened my Menu screen and pressed the Skills. Two tabs – Active and Passive – appeared as usual but unlike last time, an exclamation point was now flashing red on the top left corner of the squares. I clicked the active abilities first. The Pyroshot and Mana Blade now appeared in front of me. I clicked on the Mana Blade Tab. Mana Blade Level: 2 Rank: F Skill Class: Any Skill Type: Magical Manacost:1% of Mana Creates a blade of pure energy to damage enemies. Damage depends on Intelligence (50 %) and Maximum Mana (50%). “Well, it’s much stronger now, ain’t it?” I asked.
