As we walked along the corridors, I planned what to say when my godfather decides to have a conversation with me. From what Saiko said minutes ago and as how Sadao-san shut the crowd's mouths without moving, he does hate long talks. Keep it simple, I reminded myself. Sadao-san and Saiko had this similar aura when they're angry, that feeling that even though she's not telling you she's angry, you know she is. I remembered once when Saiko got angry with me. I asked her if it'd be okay for me to have a girlfriend, you know, just a random question. She just smiled but her red face clearly told me I shouldn't.
We walked along a lit corridor and went upstairs. All of the rooms on the second floor were empty. Only the last room on the far corridor was lit and seemed to be filled with people. I never knew there were rooms like these in the center, but, well, I've never been here.
My ears rang with awful silence. I looked at the crowd through the glass-made walls. Agents were now talking to them, maybe interviewing them, and was handing snacks and pamphlets that I couldn't read. I decided to break the silence.
I turned to Saiko. "So, Sadao-san's your grandfather?"
"Yes, and she's also the one that told us to guard you," she answered. "Don't worry, though. He might be a little bit bossy..."
"And scary," I added.
"but he wouldn't hurt you," she assured.
"So you're like the Charlie's Angels now. He's the Charlie and you're those happy-go-lucky women," I joked.
They chuckled. "Except that we don't do adrenaline junkie stuff," Nami said.
We were now getting closer to the room. However, I noticed my breath getting faster. I didn't notice it at first but when we were only a few steps from the door, a surge of energy suddenly went throughout my body. Ever had that jot through your body when you touched a chipped electrical wire? I felt it that time. The whole world seemed to spin and I knelt. The girls quickly rushed in.
"Shiro-kun! Are you okay?" Thyme asked.
"Hey! Shiro, answer us!" Saiko demanded.
"Talk to us!" Nami shouted.
I couldn't answer. I gritted my teeth as my body felt like it was being stepped on by a giant. My heartbeat seemed to be running from a cheetah as it rapidly beat. Images were popping inside my mind. One showed Dad and Sadao-san talking to one another. One showed Sadao-san giving me an ice cream cone. All of the images seemed to flow quickly inside my brain - like afterimages of someone running at the speed of light.
"He's fine, don't worry"
I could hear Sadao-san's voice. Moments later, my nausea started to disappear and my breathing relaxed. The world now stopped spinning as Nami helped me stood.
"Are you okay now?" she asked.
I wiped the sweat of my face. "Yes. How long was I out?"
"You weren't out at all," Saiko answered. "You just knelt and grunted for like ten seconds."
"Well, that was the longest ten seconds of my life," I said.
Sadao-san was now standing beside Saiko, his assistant talking to him about something - maybe what happened before the memory-thing.
Sadao-san put a hand on his chin as if he was studying me. "Memory Resonate...Mayumi-chan really is pretty strong."
"You're my Dad's bestfriend..." I said as I tried to recount what I've seen in the images. "You're also my godfather..."
"I already told you that," he reminded.
"And you also helped me with something, I don't know what that is, but my memories seems to be coming back," I continued.
"Well, if you're already fine, let's go now," Sadao-san said and led the way.
We went inside the room. A wide whiteboard sat on a wall facing a long table filled with chairs. People I don't recognize sat on each of them and looked at us (please, not me) as we walked to our seats.
"So, I guess all of us are already present. We will now begin our meeting," Sadao-san said and sat down. "From what I've heard from the team that I sent and with my grandchild's reports, an irregularity on the Anaphors seems to be present. As you may know, violet Anaphors are the F-Rank ones yet Rank-E bosses appeared, namely a Hellovian Wolf and Brood Widow."
He summoned a screen on the center of the table. It showed a scene of people in armors, Figures, fighting a large wolf with sharp shiny bristles on its back.
"This scene was from my team fighting the Hellovian Wolf on the third Anaphora. How this happened, we are still investigating, but one thing I know is the first prophecy's already happening," Sadao-san said and showed another set of images on the screen. The screen now showed people being hit by multicolored light beams.
"But what is the reason for it? We Figures have stayed in silence for centuries so these must've been a simple error, right?" a woman with three earrings on her right ear said.
"I believe it was the System who did it. He seems to sense the irregularities on the Anaphoras and responded by giving mundane people the abilities that Figures usually have," Sadao-san answered. "The beams of light also gave us our 'updates' - removing out unnecessary things and excluded only the Rank and Class-specific skills and other stuff."
A young man with long hair raised his hand. "Just a question. Is this fat kid here the one being described in the prophecy?"
"That is rude, Marco!" the woman with the three earrings in her right ear exclaimed. "You should have respect in front of our leader Sa -"
She wasn't able to finish what she was saying. A loud bang echoed in my ears as something sped its way through Marco - missing him by an inch and made a hole on the wall behind him. The hair above his ear was smoking.
"You shall not show disrespect in front of us, young lad," a man with a cowboy hat beside Sadao-san said. He was pointing a weird-looking gun on Marco as he chewed something, maybe a gum.
"Of course n-not! i wouldn't dare! I was just asking!" Marco said, his face fear-stricken.
Sadao-san cleared his throat. "As I was saying, the System must be in action. Prophecies cannot be stopped or avoided, as what we have seen on different timelines in history. I think this would be the right time to tell Shiro the prophecy," he continued, his face stern.
"W-What do y-you mean?" I stammered nervously.
"You see, Shiro, a week after we seven Figures reached the S-Rank, a prophecy was shown to all the Figures around the world. This exactly..."
Sadao-san got his tablet out, clicked something on it and looked at the screen. The image on the floating screen changed and showed messages, the kind of notifications that I normally see when I use Analysis. All of them were in different languages but I could read all of them. How I did it, I don't know, but all of them said the same message.
Rays of light shall hit the void
The irregularities, only the strongest can face or avoid
In the pieces, great powers dwell
To raze the land or make it well
The white one shall face sacrifices
In seeking out the remaining pieces
As he sojourns in all places
The Sea and the Sun shall break the braces
"I don't understand...how does this concern me?" I asked aloud.
Sadao-san looked at me with a worried face. "The white one shall face sacrifices..." he memorized.
"Unfortunately, young man, the fifth line talks about you," an old man with a few hair on his head on Sadao-san's right said.
"But...But how can you be so sure it means me? I can't even defeat a giant spider by myself."
Saiko stood up. "Stop being too humble, Shiro. You seem to forget these..." She put a vial full of green fluid, a sack of gold and a colorless stone on the table.
The people around the table shuffled and studied it. "Are those..."
"Yes, they are the drops from Brood Widow. Shiro neutralized the boss and thus, got these as the rewards along with an F-Rank Essence Potion that he drank in the hospital a while ago," Nami said.
"For some reason, he managed to summon aspell, learn two skills, and upgrade them into a level or two in just a single day. If I may guess, only a handful of Figures can do that, including my friend, Takechi Mamoru, Shiro's father," Sadao-san explained.
"So, he really is the one mentioned in the prophecy?" the woman with the three earrings asked.
"Shiro translates to white in English. So, more or less, yes, he is," Sadao-san explained. "Well, does someone have something to say?"
No one answered. All of them just looked at me with interest.
"Well then, I guess that ends our meeting. I'll just send you a message in case something bad comes out of the blue," he finished.
The people bowed and slowly walked outside. Me and the girls stood up and was ready to go outside too when Sadao-san called me.
"Can I have a word with you, please, Shiro-chan?"
