Chapter 30

Parker

It’s been another week of Hunter’s torture. He seems to have calmed down a little because there have been times, I’ll fall asleep without AJ and Ryan and I’m actually able to stay asleep for a little bit.

Now that I’m getting more rest, we are able to work together to figure out our next steps. Step number one is figuring out how to make a second exit without ruining the current bunker set up.

While Tom and I have been working on this Jasper and Ava came to me and said that they would like to start training AJ.

I’ve been uneasy about it, but I allowed them to work with him and he seems to really be enjoying learning some basics of self-defense. I’ve been letting him come outside more often and he is loving it.

I can’t help the uneasiness I have that the Aberrations are just going to hop out of nowhere. Ryan tries to reassure me that we would know ahead of time due to all of the cameras that we have set up and we always have someone watching them. We all take shifts even AJ likes to sit and watch every once in a while. We want him to feel like he’s helping so we let him watch the cameras for like five minutes and if he insists on being by himself, we allow it because we know him- if he saw any movement, he will yell for me.

I’ve also gotten in a habit of running the perimeter of our land by myself. I normally do it in the morning, after lunch, and at night before putting AJ to bed and on days I feel really uneasy Ryan insists on us running again at midnight.

I appreciate how he supports me; he never calls me crazy for the way I feel and just gets up with me and reassures me that everything is okay.

Ryan has still been sleeping with me and I think our relationship is slowly being normalized. AJ doesn’t ask questions about us sleeping together because he knows that Ryan is there to keep me safe, but during the day we are acting a little more playful and flirtatious.

Right now, I’m watching as AJ is learning from Ava and Jasper. I hear Ryan sit beside me and he says, “He’s doing good.”

I nod in agreement and say, “I just hope he never has to use these moves against anyone.”

Ryan sighs, “Me too, Par.”

Jasper and Ava call for a break and Skye walks over to AJ and I can see that it’s a lighthearted conversation. But there’s definitely something suspicious about the way AJ is smiling.

AJ runs over to me after Jasper told him to take a break. He looks at me with excitement in his eyes and he says, “Do you see mama and RyRy?”

I glance over at the two of them sitting beside one another and I nod, “Yeah, they were watching you train.”

He smiles and says, “They’re in love.”

I chuckle, “Yeah they’ve always loved one another.”

He shakes his head, “Not like this. RyRy is going to be my daddy.”

I sigh, “AJ… don’t say things like that. You don’t know what’s happening with them.”

He looks over at them and says, “Watch.”

I don’t know what he’s doing, but I’ve noticed when he starts to use his powers his eyes seem to glow a little. They’re glowing now and he’s very focused on Ryan.

I ask, “What are you doing, bud?”

He smirks but ignores me and suddenly Ryan grabs Parker’s face and he kisses her.

Parker pushes him away quickly and I can tell from here that she is fuming from his actions and I know that when she finds out that Ryan didn’t really have a choice in the matter that she will be upset with AJ. AJ looks at me with a smile and I say, “AJ, that wasn’t cool.”

He shrugs, “He loves my mom.”

“How did you make him do that?”

“I focused on the pink and I made it stronger. He did that on his own… I think he needed to express the way he was feeling.”

“Huh.”

I hear Ava call for AJ and he runs off from me and I walk over to Parker who is now walking away from Ryan.

I rush to catch up with Parker and I say, “Hey Parker.”

She says, “Not in the mood, Skye.”

“Parker, Ryan didn’t have a choice.”

She stops in her tracks and looks at me curiously and asks, “What do you mean?”

I sigh, “He didn’t have a choice. AJ was using his powers on Ryan. He said that he can see that the two of you love one another and he focused on the love to make it stronger. So, no he did not make Ryan kiss you, but he said he thinks that Ryan felt overwhelmed by the emotion that he had to let it out.”

Her jaw is clenched tight as she thinks over everything that I said and then she sighs heavily and says as she leans against a tree, “He’s really powerful, huh?”

I nod, “He is… I don’t think he even realizes it.”

She huffs, “Hunter can never find out about him.”

I nod in agreement, “Hunter will be dead before he can discover what AJ can do.”

She says, “Come on, let’s get back I owe Ryan an apology.”

I walk with her and ask, “What exactly is going on between the two of you?”

She smiles, “It’s complicated.”

“AJ says you love each other.”

She looks perplexed by my statement and then says, “I’ve always loved Ryan.”

“AJ says it’s different than what it was when you guys came here.”

She purses her lips and nods, “It is. But I don’t know if I would call it love yet. I loved Ashton. I don’t currently feel the way for Ryan that I did for Ashton.”

“Don’t you think you would feel differently? I mean they are two different people.”

She nods, “They are. I just don’t know how to describe how I feel for him yet.”

We get back to our clearing and AJ is still with Jasper and Ava, but Tom and Emma have joined them now and Ryan is nowhere in sight. Parker sighs and says, “I’m going to check the bunker.”

I nod, “Have fun, Par.”

She scoffs, “Thanks. Also tell AJ never to do that again. If he does then I’m going to have to punish him for it.”

I nod, “Understood, I’ll make sure he understands.”

“Thanks Skye, you’re such a big help with him.”
