Chapter 3

Ryan   Ever since Parker left things around here have gotten a lot harder than they used to be. Something seemed to change in Hunter, and he became just plain ruthless. I mean, he’s always been evil. That much is obvious by the amount of lives that he has shattered, but now he has stopped being secretive and has started to destroy everything in his path. Honestly, it’s out of his character and on top of that he’s even been killing a lot of humans. Which is unusual because he’s always wanted the humans to be like our slaves or to get powers so they would be one of us. He saw regular mortals as weak and either they needed to receive powers, or they needed to play the weaker part. It’s been hard to keep things contained as we didn’t want to cause chaos in the outside world. But the kind of moves he and the rest of the Aberrations are making are hard to cover. They already got rid of our HQ. So many people died that day. I honestly don’t know how many more Originals there are any more outside of our little group. I get brought out of my thoughts when I hear Skye hiss, “Bro, focus!”   I look towards her and give an apologetic smile and she rolls her eyes as she walks forward. Right now, Skye and I are patrolling the perimeter of our land. She has grown into a beautiful and powerful young woman. As she grew up, she stopped calling me Uncle Ryan and now just refers to me as Ryan or bro. I kind of hate it when she calls me bro, but I deal with it. Skye looks like a younger version of Emma. It’s crazy how similar the two of them look. Skye’s dirty blonde hair is pulled back into a high ponytail just like how Emma normally keeps her hair and their blue eyes are the same round shape, but Skye’s eyes are just slightly darker than Emma’s. Most of the time the two of them look like sisters since Emma looks young for her age. Even though Jasper and Ava were the ones that took over as Skye’s primary guardians Emma is still more of a motherly figure for Skye while Ava acts more like the fun aunt. Skye likes to take risks, but she is very cautious. The way she acts kind of reminds me of my sister, Nikki, except Skye is a lot more cautious than Nikki ever was. I think the reason that Skye is so cautious is because she knows that our group can’t handle any more losses. So, she makes sure not to put herself in harm’s way. If we hadn’t lost so many people already, I think she would’ve been just as much of a risk taker as Nikki was. We both hear a noise and snap our heads in the direction it came from and I put a finger to my lips signaling her to be quiet. I take the lead as I slowly walk towards the sound when I get tackled to the ground. I grunt and swing my fist colliding with the person’s cheek. It was enough to get them to fall off me and immediately I watch as Skye uses her powers to electrocute him and shocks him enough that he dies. She and I look at one another and nod solemnly. It’s part of it now. We can’t take any risks; we can’t leave any survivors. We continue to walk forward, and I see Hunter and stop in my tracks. He notices me and Skye and he huffs, “You’re still alive.” I don’t say anything, but I can feel the electrical energy in the air as Skye plans her attack. He says simply, “Kill them.” I turn to run and grab Skye’s arm, forcing her to follow me because I know that soon we will be surrounded, and we would have no chance. We need to get back to base. I get into Tom’s head and say: We’re being attacked. Anything going on there? It takes a moment before he answers me, which worries me because he is normally pretty good at responding immediately.  I’m about to speak to him again when I hear him say: Get to the bunker. Don’t worry about anyone else. Whoever makes it- makes it. They’re attacking the house. We literally only know where the bunker is because of how bad things have gotten. Tom told us the only time he would ever send us there is if they started targeting our home. I push myself harder when I hear the sound of gunshots and I get into Skye’s head: Zig zag. Don’t run in a clear path, it makes it easier to target. Got it. Keep running, I have a plan. Skye- She cuts me off and responds harshly: Keep running. I groan: Fine but come to the bunker. Tom said they’re at the house too. Whoever makes it to the bunker- makes it. She sighs through the link then says: Tell everyone to get to the bunker now. What I’m doing may have some catastrophic repercussions. I keep running like she said, and I get into everyone’s head and say: Head to the bunker. Skye’s got a plan, but it’s dangerous for all of us. I hear everyone respond okay and I keep running. I start to feel a lot of electricity surrounding me and I turn around and see her making an electrical shield that is beginning to make a dome over our land. I turn around and keep running towards the bunker when I hear Skye say, “I told you to run!” I chuckle, “I am running!” She scoffs, “Apparently not fast enough. Now, push it! I’ve seen you run faster than this!” We run towards the bunker together and as we make it to the entrance I say, “I’m sorry, I got distracted with what you were doing.” She shakes her head, “You don’t understand what I just did is incredibly dangerous.” I begin to open the hatch as I ask, “How is it dangerous?” She mutters, “Hurry.” I start climbing down the ladder and she’s following right on top of me and as soon as she closes the hatch an explosion happens so powerful it knocks both of us off the ladder and we fall to the floor.
