Chapter 5

1156 Words
Parker   We pull up to the remains of the house and I take a deep breath. I am nervous especially because I don’t know if there will be any Aberrations out here. I turn around to face AJ and say, “Okay, love, I don’t know if it’s dangerous out here. If you see anyone with a dark color, you tell me immediately and we will leave as soon as we can. You need to know, mommy is very powerful and if I have to, I will hurt someone if it means our lives or theirs, okay?” He nods and looks around and says, “Okay mama, but right now no one else is here, it’s just us.” Man, his power is going to come in handy. I say, “Good, you tell me if that changes, okay?” He nods and I say, “I love you.” He smiles back, “I love you, mama.” I get out of the car and I get him out of his seat. I hold onto his hand and I say, “Do not wander.” He nods in understanding as we walk forward together. It hurts my heart to see our house gone, but I just hope the people aren’t gone. We walk further towards the tree line and I ask, “Do you see anything?” “No, mama.” I nod and push forward as I try to use my senses to find the bunker. That’s what Tom told me to do, but I’m trying not to be obvious about using my powers just in case some Aberrations are hiding around here. I am using my powers to spread some of the dirt out in front of me as I walk in hopes that I’ll be able to find the hatch. Tom never told me where exactly the bunker was, he just said that I would be able to find it if I needed it. Finally, I find the opening and I clear the dirt out of the way. I look towards AJ and ask, “Do you see anything?” He slowly turns around in a circle and says, “No ma’am.” I sigh as I open the hatch. Either they’re down here- or they’re dead.     Ryan   We’ve been in the bunker for three days and I’m surprised we aren’t getting on each other’s nerves yet. But it is a high-end bunker. There is a ton of space, we even have electricity that uses generators and if anything happened to them Skye would be able to power it up. Tom has a camera set up outside, but when the explosion happened it got knocked down so now, we can only see someone’s feet. Emma was watching the monitor and saw someone, and we shut everything down. Just in case they would be able to hear the electrical hum of the generator. That’s one thing that is terrifying about being in the bunker is if anyone finds us all they would have to do is throw a bomb down here and we would all be dead. We all sit quietly, but I can see Skye is prepared to use her powers if she has to. She is the one with the best powers for attacking so it doesn’t surprise me that she is standing as if she will have to shock someone at any second. The hatch opens up and I can’t help the fact that my jaw drops open that someone actually found us. Through the little bit of light that shines through I can see that Skye is now frozen in shock and unable to move. The person gets halfway down the ladder and I know that it’s up to me to try to defend our place since I’m the one standing closest to the hatch. I rush towards them and throw them off of the ladder and pin them to the ground. I get ready to punch them when I feel small fists hitting my back as I hear, “Get off my mommy!” I’m in shock that I don’t even notice that I loosened my stance and now I’ve been flipped onto my back and the person is straddling me about to hit me in the face when the lights get flipped on and she gasps, “Ryan?” I look at her face and I feel like I’m looking at a ghost. Parker. She looks different. Her hair is slightly shorter than it used to be and has a reddish hue to it. She’s not wearing any makeup, but you can tell that she has aged a little. She’s still beautiful as she always was. She looks around and sees everyone and slowly gets off of me and says nervously, “Hi, everyone.” It’s Parker. She’s here. She’s in front of me right now. I’m just in awe of the fact she is actually here. It’s been five years. I’ve looked for her for five years and could never figure out where the hell she went. The little boy walks beside her, and he is the spitting image of Ashton. He looks at each one of us intensely and he nods in a satisfied way and he looks up at Parker as he tells her, “They’re all blue, mama.” What the hell does that mean? He looks at me and grins really wide and says, “Hey mama, RyRy is super blue, just like you… well not quite as big as yours,” He shrugs, “But it’s close.” Everyone chuckles at him calling me RyRy and I know that soon Parker will explain what blue he is talking about. I sit up and crouch down in front of him and say, “So, you’re Ashton James.” He smiles, “Call me AJ, Ashton is my daddy.” I nod, “I know, he was my best friend.” His eyes light up, “Can you tell me more stories about him?” I nod, “Sure, kid, happy to, just let’s do it later, okay?” He smiles and looks up at Parker and says, “I like him, mama.” She smiles as she runs her fingers through his hair, “I’m glad, love, I do too.” She looks at each one of us and says with relief laced through her voice, “I like every one of them.”
