MICHAEL
The party had died down hours ago. Everyone left either rattled, tired, or confused by what they had witness.
What was supposed to be an eventful night turned into a nightmare on elm street. Well sort of.
Kanna also left with her son well our son or so she says.
It was 1 am and hardly any one was sleepy. I think it was the fact of the shocking news we had learned earlier.
I had a son. Saying that out loud made it seem unbelievable.
Looking around the living room, Dana and Linda were pacing back and forth, Jack kept giving me an angry look. If he had laser vision I'm sure I'd be burnt to a crisp while Bailey tried to sooth him down. Brandon sat on the couch silently while my parents had a huge smile on their faces.
As a matter of fact, there smile never faltered ever since Kyle tried to take the cake.
"Jack, what the hell man?" I crossed my hand and leaned against the wall, my eyes casting down the floor.
"No... nothing. It's just hard to believe that, that once innocent girl has a son." He absentmindedly spoke while taking a sip of beer that he was holding.
"I mean there was a time where she looked up to me, so I was just caught off guard." He smiled which didn't quite reach his eyes.
"So much for surprises." Bailey scuffed.
"Oh my, what are you going to do now?" Though my mom should've sound angry, she wasn't. More like she was ecstatic to know of her grandson.
"I want a paternity test." Dana seethed.
"A paternity test, my dear child anyone can tell right away that Kyle is a carbon copy of Michael here." Ed beamed. Is he really? When he had ran into my leg I never thought about it. I mean I did see similarities but it hasn't even crossed my mind that he could be mine.
"So, you knew?" Brandon turned towards Ed.
"Of course, I knew at first glance and you how dare you not tell me about my grandson." Ed scowled with a smile on his face.
"That's right, how the hell did you know about Kyle?" And so, it begins. I would like to know too as Linda glowered at the now timid Brandon.
Without even asking, I could tell he knew for some time. Does that mean he knew where Kanna was all this time and without even saying anything? And as if realization hit me, he knew I had a son and choose to be quiet about it.
"What the f**k Brandon." I spoke his name venomously. "You knew I had a son and dared to keep quiet about it?"
"I... I visited her."
"What do you mean? I thought you would've break it off with her once she was shipped off." Linda was now yelling.
"Linda, what the f**k are you talking about?"
Dana pulled Linda back.
"I take it from your expression you knew where she was?" I questioned Dana but the refusal for her to meet my eyes tells me what I already needed to know. "Unbelievable, you three knew where she was?" I scoffed. My anger rising at the mere thought of Kanna. Didn't she think I had the right to know. "Brandon you and your daughter had no right keeping my son away from me." I growled.
"I didn't think you would care besides I did what was best." Brandon voice was filled with disdain.
What the hell was he talking about? But before I could get an answer Dana's voice over powered my thoughts for a split second, "We thought it was for the best considering your betrayal towards me."
Ignoring Dana's snarky remark my mind was elsewhere. What else have the Frost family been keeping me out of?
"Brandon, is that true." Susan rubbed his arm gently.
Brandon hung his head low, "It's true. All those rumors are false."
"Daddy!"
"No Dana we cannot pretend we don't know. Your sister is back, my daughter and with a child, her child."
"But we can just make her go away again." I can't believe this girl. They can't control someone's life like that.
"No, she is no longer a minor and she can go wherever she wants."
"But..."
"No buts end of discussion." I have never seen Brandon so crossed before.
"Dear, why don't we tell her nicely to go elsewhere so her and her son can live peacefully maybe in the country side?"
"Do you hear yourself, you and Dana are talking about taking her freedom away." I just had to put an end to this nonsense. "She is not going anywhere not with my son."
"Mikey, your son? That spawn of the devil is not your son. You only have one child and she's at home with her nanny."
"Dana, that little boy is my son whether you like it or not."
"And so, what? Even if he is your son, are you going to play daddy. What about Lacy? She needs you and I don't want to have to share Lacy with that boy or come in second place in your heart." Her tears started to spill. I had felt her nervousness. I do love Lacy and I never want her to feel that she has to compete with my love.
But Kyle on the other hand, needs his father, right? "I'm sorry Dana that will never happened. Lacy won't have to feel like that ever."
"Unbelievable," Susan stood up followed by Ed.
"Son whether you like it or not, that little boy is your son, your blood. I will be dammed if that boy has to spend a second not knowing his father.
"But dad..." Dana pleaded.
"No buts Dana. I know you have Lacy but Kyle is his too. And if you Michael disregard Kyle your mother and I will disown you."
Is he f*****g serious?
"I'll fight for custody."
"You will not." Both Susan and Dana said in unison but apparently with different meaning.
"I will not raise another woman's child, I forbid it." Dana clarified.
Susan quirked an eyebrow at Dana with a snarl on her lips before returning her gaze back towards me, "She is his mother and I'll be damn if you tear Kyle away from his mother."
"Mother, she kept my son away from me for several years. I think I got all the rights to him." I shot back.
"Non-sense, I'm sure if you talk with Kanna she will allow you to spend time with him. In fact, it would be nice if you spend time with Kyle and Kanna get to know them both after all she is his mother." I could almost see her mind working. Unfortunately, what she said is true. What kind of monster will I be if I take Kyle away from the only parent he knows.
I didn't know Kanna for that long but something tells me she has her reasons and if hanging out with my
Son and her to find out why she hid my son then so be it.
"Mikey, you're not going to listen to your dad, are you?" Dana begged.
I understood Danna and I understood my parents.
"Sweet heart he is your responsibility."
"Mom please don't make Mikey forget Lacy."
"Whose says he's going to forget Lacy. All we are saying is that he needs to step up, be a father to that little boy."
"Michael" I almost forgot he was here, "As much as Linda or even Dana despises Kanna that little boy has done nothing wrong."
"Jack!" I heard Bailey screamed, "Tell me you don't think this is okay, what about Lacy and Dana."
"What about them?"
"Jack if you are siding..."
"First of all, I am siding on my friend here, second of all its Michael's decision."
Looking at everyone my parents are right, "You are right, my son needs his father and his mother."
A relief washed over my parents and Brandon's faces.
Dana then picked up the nearest vase and threw it at me. Luckily, I saw it before it hit me.
"Dana!" Brandon thundered. "What's the matter with you?"
"What's the matter with me you ask? This because of Michaels unfaithfulness I have to share him with Kanna." Dana stopped herself when she caught on to what she had just said.
"Dana, I grow tire of your insecurities, whether you like it or not, my parents and your dad are right. Kyle is my son and I will be damn if he spends his child hood life not knowing his father."
"But dear, only if Kanna is not with him then I'm sure Dana would be okay with it."
"That Linda, I cannot dictate Kanna's action. If I spend time with Kyle then I am sure Kanna is sure to follow. After all she is his mother." My eyes narrowed at Linda.
"Fine, only if we tag along." I sighed at Dana. "And if I feel like Kanna is a threat to us I will make sure you damn well regret ever setting eyes on her." For some odd reason I could feel in my bones she would do well to make me regret my choice.
