Chapter Seven
When Konrad knocked on the back door of Irinanda’s shop, she answered straight away.
‘Konrad,’ she said by way of greeting, though there was little welcome in her tone.
‘Morning,’ he said, eyeing her warily.
She didn’t smile. ‘Come in.’
He did so, feeling a little alarmed. Had he done something to annoy her?
She closed the door behind him, locked it, and turned around to fix him with a cold stare.
‘If you give my mother any trouble at all,’ she said in a low voice, ‘I’ll… well, I’ll do something unpleasant to you!’
‘All right,’ said Konrad mildly.
‘I mean it!’
‘I know you do.’
Nanda calmed down a little, though her hostility didn’t ebb entirely. ‘Good.’
