Chapter Six It was counter to the usual around Ekamet, but Myrrolen’s Circus hit its busiest hours between eleven at night and one or two in the morning. Konrad shepherded Nanda through the bustling crowds—ignoring her eye-rolling exasperation at his solicitude—knowing full well that the main tent would be crammed when they finally reached it. That wouldn’t matter. He was not without resources, after all. ‘When did the circus come in?’ Nanda hissed in his ear at one point, clutching at his coat sleeve to slow him down. Konrad thought. ‘A few days ago?’ Nanda nodded. ‘Tonight could be the last night, even. We’d better hurry.’ ‘No wonder it’s busy,’ was all Konrad said. He wasn’t worried: his instincts told him that he and Nanda were on the right track, and his guts didn’t usually talk
