The receptionist in the dean’s office boredly taps her computer keys, eyes glued to the monitor and glazed over behind fuzzy cat-eye glasses. ‘Samara Chen-Foster, come in.’ Freddy, with his share of bandages and ice on his cheek, gives me a comforting smile from the lobby chairs. But he can’t erase the unease for me, the belief I’m doomed, from showing on his face. I get off the hard lobby chair as Leo leaves the dean’s room. The dean’s laughter trails out of the open door and Leo passes me, bandages around his face and knuckles from a moment he’d accidentally punched the ground, smirking.
