Everything went black.
Again.
But this time…
It didn’t feel like darkness.
It felt like I was somewhere else.
Floating.
No body.
No sound.
Just thoughts.
Then slowly…
A light appeared.
Small.
Flickering.
I opened my eyes.
I was sitting on a chair.
In my room.
But something was wrong.
Too quiet.
Too still.
I stood up slowly.
“Hello?” I called.
No answer.
I walked towards the mirror.
My reflection was there.
But it didn’t move when I moved.
It was staring at me.
Smiling slightly.
My heart started racing.
“No…” I whispered.
Then—
The reflection spoke.
“You keep running,” it said.
My body froze.
I didn’t open my mouth.
But it was speaking.
“Why?” it asked.
I stepped back.
“This is not real,” I said.
The reflection tilted its head.
“Neither are you,” it replied.
My mind went blank.
Suddenly—
My phone rang.
I turned immediately.
Unknown number.
I picked it.
But before I could speak—
A voice said—
“Look outside.”
Click.
Call ended.
I hesitated.
Slowly walked to the window.
Opened it.
My breath stopped.
My street…
Was different.
Same place.
But not same.
Empty.
No people.
No movement.
Everything frozen like time stopped.
And in the middle of the road…
I saw myself.
Standing.
Looking up at me.
Smiling.
I stepped back quickly.
“No… no…” I whispered.
My heart was pounding.
I ran out of the room.
Downstairs.
But the house felt endless.
Corridors changed.
Doors appeared where there were none.
Walls shifted.
“This is not possible…” I said.
Then suddenly—
A voice echoed.
Inside the house.
“You still don’t understand the system.”
I stopped.
That voice…
Was him.
My other self.
I turned slowly.
He was standing at the end of the corridor.
Leaning against the wall.
Calm.
Smiling.
“You’re stuck in loop,” he said.
I clenched my fists.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked.
He walked closer.
Slowly.
“Doing what?” he asked.
“This is your mind,” he said.
“You created me.”
I shook my head.
“No… I didn’t.”
He smiled wider.
“Yes you did.”
Pause.
“Every time you were afraid… I was born.”
My breathing got heavy.
“That’s not true,” I said.
He tilted his head.
“Isn’t it?”
Suddenly—
Images flashed around me.
Ravi.
Karthik.
System screens.
Emails.
Death.
Memory split.
Everything at once.
My head hurt.
I fell to my knees.
“No…” I whispered.
Then—
A soft voice came.
“Karthik is still here.”
I looked up.
Karthik appeared again.
But faint.
Like a signal breaking.
He looked at me.
“You are mixing reality and control,” he said.
My breathing slowed.
“What is real?” I asked.
Karthik looked at both of us.
“You are both real,” he said.
Silence.
“But only one can exist outside.”
My heart stopped.
The other me smiled.
“Then choose,” he said.
I froze.
Choose?
Between what?
Karthik spoke again.
“If you don’t choose…”
Pause.
“You will stay here forever.”
My hands started shaking.
I looked at the other me.
Then at Karthik.
Both waiting.
Both watching.
My mind was breaking.
“What if I choose wrong?” I asked.
Karthik didn’t answer.
The other me laughed softly.
“There is no wrong choice,” he said.
Only control.
My breathing became fast.
Then suddenly—
Everything started shaking.
Walls cracking.
Reality glitching.
“Time is running out,” Karthik said.
I closed my eyes.
Trying to think.
What is real?
What is not?
Then I realized something.
Both of them…
Are inside me.
And outside…
Is still waiting.
I slowly opened my eyes.
And said—
“I need to wake up.”
Everything stopped.
Silence.
Then—
A voice whispered.
“Good choice.”
But I didn’t know…
Who said it.
