Meeting the Parents

973 Words
Meagan was so nervous as she walked through the halls on the way to talk to Chase’s parents. He held her hand tightly, fingers entwined and it helped calm her some. The closer they got to his parents rooms, the slower she tried to walk. Finally, it was time. They stopped before the door and Chase knocked twice. She heard his mother’s voice, “Come in Chase.” They entered to find his father sitting on the sofa reading while his mother was up fussing with this and that. She glanced up and smiled at her son and went back to her busy work for about 3 seconds before she snapped her head up and growled, “What is she doing here?” This got the fathers attention and now they were both on their feet and closing the distance between themselves and the younger couple. His father growled out, “Don’t make us ask again.” Chase cleared his throat, “When we went to get Cora, as soon as we entered the house, there was a scent...I umm thought maybe it was just Cora at first. Then we spoke to Meagan and it got stronger but I still couldn’t be sure. On the way home, it hit me every time we stopped. So I had her cleaned up today, so I could be sure, so I could get her full scent. This is my mate.” His parents roared. His mother screamed.  His father looked like he was going to attack them both. Chase tilted his head so they would see his mark and he encouraged Meagan to do the same. His mother collapsed onto the floor in tears. Chase felt like his heart was breaking. His mother was strong but she had been through so much. This was breaking her.  As his father gathered his mother into his arms, she sobbed, “We will never get her back now. We have no leverage.  She is really gone forever.” Meagan realized that she had one chance to be accepted by them. She had to show them her remorse and try to help. She cleared her throat, “Excuse me. I know you hate me and my family but we may still have a way to get Dyann back.” “You mean Cora?” His father had nothing but hate in his voice when he spoke.  ”Yes sir. Cora.” Both parents calmed down a bit and exchanged a long silence staring deeply into each other’s eyes. They were speaking through their bond. Finally the mother spoke, “We will listen. Speak.” “Let me ‘escape’. My family has surely moved by now but my father will tell me where they are so I can come home. When I get there, I will tell Dya..Cora the whole truth and get her out. I can bring her home. You know my wolf will make me come back to my mate. I will not be able to betray you even if I wanted to which I don’t.  If I hide my mark, my family will not suspect anything.” Chase immediately said no. In fact he had been saying no the whole time she was speaking. His parents seemed to be considering it. So he spoke a little louder, “NO. We will not risk my mate. Those people are dangerous. What if they find out?  What if they get caught escaping? The answer is no. We will figure out something else.” Meagan turned towards him and laid a hand on each side of his face. “Chase, you are my mate. I will come back to you. My family did a horrible thing. Actually a series of horrible things. You have to let me help make it right. Think about the feeling of our bond. The feeling of marking each other. She has been denied that right. She has been denied her wolf. We can not leave her there and I’m the only way in.” Chase looked at his beautiful mate. He could feel the sincerity. She really wanted to help his family, her family, their pack. He looked at his parents. They looked hopeful. He simply nodded.  His mother stepped forward and extended her hand towards Meagan. “My name is Carmela. I am the Alpha Female of the entire NorthEastern territory. My husband is Sean. Our boys are Calvin, Charles and of course Chase. Our only daughter is Cora. She is the next Alpha Female of our territory and you are to be our daughter in law. We will accept you because we feel your sincerity and your remorse. We will not risk your life though.”  As she spoke tears steadily rolled down her cheeks. She knew she was closing the book on finding her daughter by denying Meagan. She also knew she could not risk one child’s well being for another.  Sean approached and extended his hand to Meagan as well. He pulled her in to a warm hug, “Thank you for the offer.”  He released her quickly and spoke to Chase. “Have her moved immediately to the room adjoining yours. Get her whatever she needs to be comfortable. We will talk about the next steps for you two later. Your mother needs some time.” Chase nodded and grabbed Meagans hand as they left.  Once in the hall Meagan stopped him. “They are not willing to send me because they want to protect you which means protecting me. I’ll be ok though. You and I have to do this on our own. We have to rescue her and bring her home.” Chase nodded, “Let’s get you settled and we will figure it out. I think if I go with you and stay close enough for you to reach me, we can do this.” Meagan nodded happily. She wanted to give Dyann the same happiness she felt. She wanted to make up for all the abuse and hurt. It was torture to keep her from her wolf, her pack, her family. Meagan just hoped Dyann would forgive her.
