Chapter IV: “Where have the rest of the others gone?”

623 Words
I work as a Grab driver, which means I pick up passengers and transport them to their destinations. I worked the night shift because there was no pandemic at the time. That night, I received a call from a passenger near my home, and I immediately went to meet them. When I first spotted my prospective passengers, I saw that they appeared to have just returned from attending church in the White Chapel, which was just behind them. They were still chatting with the person who had delivered them, so I stepped outside and placed the bag they were carrying in the trunk of the car. When I returned to the car, my four passengers had been quiet, which was unusual because I had grown up listening to my passengers talking, but they were deafeningly quiet. In the back of the car was the man who booked me, who went by the name of Kristian, along with his wife and a child, while the other woman sat next to me in the driver's seat. I just gave him a kind smile and then turned the car on. It's not far from where they're going, yet just a few minutes ago, everything was calm. I checked my rearview mirror in case any of my passengers appeared to be in a bad mood. "Seriously, I still can't believe it," his wife said as we reached their subdivision. We're very close to their house, and they're discussing the funeral. "I wasn't expecting him to die so young. He's still so young." When I first heard that after I had stopped the car, it appeared that I didn't care. Until I realized the boy who was with them earlier was no longer in his seat! I kept blinking my eyes to make sure what I was seeing was real and not a dream! The boy who was with them is no longer with them. I looked outside right away, but no one had yet opened the door, so it's unlikely that they went outside first. After I looked for the child in the car, I went outside. I was even more terrified of something else I saw, so I jumped out of the car as soon as I could. In order to avoid being scared, I was the one who got out of the car first. I got to my feet right away to clear whatever I'd noticed from my mind and just ignore it in case I couldn't get it out of my head. That's when I started to feel anxious. "Ma'am, where have the rest of the others gone?" I asked. "What? Who's on board with us?" Here, as a result of my question, Kristian and the woman accompanying her were taken by surprise. "Well, ma'am, the thing is that there were four of you who entered my cab, but only the two of you came out?" The woman who had been sitting next to me in the driver's seat earlier is also no longer there anymore either. Both of their eyes widened when I said that. I was terrified, and I didn't seem to want to leave on my own. The person who booked with me simply started crying, and it's possible that his sister was the woman and his niece, and she was trying to say goodbye to him. I didn't linger over our conversation; instead, I took the payment and then left. It's been a long time since this happened to me, and I'm not even telling my coworkers about it because I know it will only affect them. Regarding that incident, even though I have no passengers, I always have the feeling that someone is always with me. Jun. Unknown LAGY
