The city was still waking when Liam’s car cut through the morning traffic like a blade. His jaw was tight, one hand gripping the steering wheel, the other fisting the resignation letter — her letter. Shaky lines. Ink pressed too hard, like every word hurt to write. He’d read it three times. The first, in disbelief. The second, in anger. The third… in something he couldn’t name. He’d stormed out of the office before anyone could say a word. His staff had watched him leave, wide-eyed, as if the floor had just given way beneath their feet. Now, his chest burned with a fury he didn’t understand. Or maybe he did — and he just didn’t want to name it. As he turned into her street, a yellow cab rolled out from the opposite end. The driver honked twice, weaving into traffic. Liam didn’t notice
