Chapter 7

1157 Words
For the next few weeks, I've been spending a lot of time with Donovan and Raxton at the mansion. Jeremey wasn't particularly happy about me spending so much time with the two of them, but after long conversations and pleading, he was okay with it. Not happy, but okay. He would phone me between two and three times a night and when he didn't phone, he would text me way too much. Kevin and Zoe were spending a lot of time together like they used to, and they would sometimes video call me while I'm here at the mansion. They also talked to Donovan and Raxton to and it was fun. Zoe, Kevin, and I went out every Friday night for a fun night. Whenever they asked me what I was up to, I had explained that I'm helping the guys with studying and school projects. They never asked what we were studying, and I thought not telling them was better. I picked up a few strange things with the guys and thought all this research has made me see things that were not real. They were human and didn't look one bit like angels or demons. I was losing my mind sometimes. # "What exactly are we looking for?" I asked the guys. I was lying on the couch with my feet resting on Donovan's lap; he used my legs as a table for the book he had been reading for the past two hours. I giggled at the fact that Raxton, this big built beautiful guy is lying on the carpet like a pin-up girl on the beach reading old books. He quickly crawled deep into my heart with his sense of humor and quirky personality. He was sweet, caring, and kind, like a mama goose. Donovan rested his hand on my calf and drew my attention back into the moment. "We are looking for a key." He said and turned the page. "A name would be nice?" I chuckled, and he rubbed my leg in thought with his thumb. "It's called The Key of Sheol," Raxton answered before Donovan could and smiled innocently at us. I frowned, "what does it do?" I waited for them to answer, and they looked at each other. Raxton got up and stretched. "We might as well tell her what it does, there's no harm in that Donny." He looked at Donovan and continued. "It's just a silly key, remember?" He winked and walked out of the living room. I raised my brows at Donovan, and he sighed. "The key is 'supposed' to open any door in hell and gains passage to enter and leave there as you please." He said and his jaw ticked under his skin. "Why would someone what to do that?" I sounded a bit disgusted when I asked that. Donovan frowned and then shrugged. "People do strange things for power, I guess." He patted my leg, and I lifted them off him, "Hungry." He patted his stomach with a smile and pulled me up from the couch. "Caveman" I shook my head and chuckled. # The next few days we looked for leads about where the key is and came up empty-handed. It was a hopeless case and was about to give up until I found something worth gold in an ancient book. "Get your keys!" I yelled and placed a bookmark in between the pages and shut the book. "Why?" Raxton frowned at me from the desk and Donovan stood next to him with a piece of paper in his hand that he tried to transcribe. "I found something!" I yelled as I rushed towards the desk. Both looked at me in question and I opened the book. "What are we looking at?" Donovan frowned at the page and I rolled my eyes. "A map! I found a map!" I yelled in excitement. They looked at each other and their eyes went wide in surprise. Donovan laughed and came around the table and kissed my cheek. "You are amazing Genevieve!" He smiled. "What are we waiting for?" I smiled and grabbed the book and my bag. "We can grab food on the way, and I'll book a motel for us." I said as I turned around. Donovan stopped me with his hands raised. "Whoa! Gennybean, you're not coming with." "The hell I'm not!" I said and gave him a stern look. "I'm going alone, you can stay here with Rax if you'd like." He said and crossed his arms and leaned against the desk. "Please, Donovan?" I plead and he shot me a look, and something twinkled in his eyes. "Say that again?" He grinned at me. "Please?" I pleaded again, and he raised his brows. "Oh, you want me to say your name again?" I smiled, and he nodded. "Fine, please take me with..." I smiled. "Donovan." "Just because you asked nicely, But!" He held his finger up. "If I say it's not safe, you will not argue with me." He gave a stern look that scared me a bit. "Yes! I promise, now can we go already?" I nodded and smiled. He shook his head with a grin. "I'll go pack quickly and then meet you at your house in about an hour." He walked towards me. I wrapped my arms around his waist and kissed him. "I'm taking the book with me," I said as I grabbed the book and left. # I phoned Zoe and explained that I'm going on a road trip with Donovan and asked her to cover for me. She was more than happy with it and promised she wouldn't let Jeremey find out. He was away on a trip with some other teachers for the week and we did not know when he would be back. So, we needed to play it safe, just in case. I packed a few things that I needed for the week and then searched for a motel for tonight. All the Motels were fully booked, and I found one that only had one bedroom available and I told her I'll get back to her. I found none with any rooms available and phoned the lady back and booked the only room I could find. I grabbed my bags and went down the stairs and called Dad to let him know; he was so excited about my weekend sleepover that he didn't ask questions and told me I should enjoy my week. I then phoned Zoe and told her what I told Dad and she wrote it down and was excited for me. There was a knock on the door, and I opened it and Donovan smiled at me. "Ready?" He smirked, and I nodded, he took my bags and I grabbed the book from the table and walked to the SUV. I got in and greeted Zoe and told her I'll let her know when we get to the motel. He smiled at me and I told him that Zoe will cover for me and that I booked a motel room for us. "A... Motel room?" He asked slowly. I rolled my eyes, "It was the only one available for the night." We stopped at a*****e just out of town and picked up some food, snacks, and drinks for the road.
