Chapter 3

Dad loved Zoe and Kevin and was happy that I made friends, delightful friends. Jeremey calculated them, and when he considered them as excellent influences, he warmed up to them. We were all having a wonderful time and Dad had to leave for work and Jeremey went to take a drive, Zoe and Kevin went home after we made plans to do something this weekend. Jeremey came back home; I was in the kitchen making some coffee when he walked in softly. "Hey Gen," he smiled at me. "Jer" I nodded back, "want some?" I raised my mug, and he nodded. We sat and talked while we drank our coffee. We were like any other siblings, well most of the time. He sometimes knew me better than I knew myself. "I'm happy that you made friends Gen," he smiled sweetly at me. I smiled back. "Me too, Jer." He laughed, "and you have made quite the impression with that Donovan," he wiggled his brows. I gave a full belly laugh, "definitely not." I said and got up. He tapped on the counter. "Well, it would be nice if you met someone," he said and walked away. # I kept to my usual self for the rest of the week, occasionally I got text messages and calls from Zoe and Kevin, we even had a few video calls and I thought they are a good strange and I was happy to be their friend. I was excited to go to school. Even if I'll be the new kid there, I had great new friends. My phone went off and saw a message from an unknown number. "You awake?" I looked at the screen and typed back. "No." I placed the phone back down, and it beeped again. "Liar." I shook my head and ignored it, and another one came through. "Now that you are awake..." I frowned and locked my phone and then it beeped again; I groaned and unlocked it. "I'm outside Gennybean." What!? I tugged the curtains back and saw an SUV parked in front of the house. I sighed when I saw that it was Donovan and texted him back. "On my way..." I tugged my sweatpants on, shoved my feet into my converse shoes and grabbed my hoodie, and put it on as I went down the stairs quietly. Trying not to wake Jeremey up. I got outside and walked up to the SUV; Donovan was leaning against it with his hands in his jean pockets. He had a long sleeve shirt on with converse shoes, and he smiled at me when I stopped in front of him. "Why did you wake me?" I asked him. He smirked, "your lights were on." He pointed to my window. Great, I thought to myself, I won't get myself out of that lie. "I was about to go to bed." I went to stand next to him and leaned against his SUV. He lifted a brow at me, "comfortable?" He sounded a bit amused. "Why, yes thank you," I said in a sarcastic tone, "Why are you here?" I frowned at him. He lifted his chin and smiled brightly, and his dimples showed. "I thought we could go for a drive." He stared up to the sky with a grin. I blurted out a laugh, "you want me to get in a car with some guy I barely know?" He tilted his head, "barely know? I'm offended, Gennybean." He placed his hand on his heart and I squinted at him and sighed. "Don't call me that!" I frowned and walked around the SUV to the passenger side and opened the door and got in. He opened his door and raised his brows, "let's go then!" He jumped in and started the SUV. I turned the radio on. "Hmm," I said with a nod. He had good taste in music. "I'm impressed." I smiled at him and he seemed chuffed with that and winked at me. He turned the music up and we sang along while we were driving around town. It was fun, to be honest. He smiled the whole way, and I mirrored his expression. When we stopped at a red light, I sang at the top of my lungs and he watched me with a strange expression. I covered my face with my hands to hide the blush that crept up cross my cheeks. He tugged them away, "stop that, just do you." He held my hand, and I bit my lip. The light was green, and he continued, I didn't sing again. I was a little humiliated about what just happened. He kept on singing and I just laughed at him. He really enjoyed himself, and that made me get butterflies. I felt comfortable with him, and that made the butterflies even more intense. We stopped at a small bar in the middle of nowhere, and I shot him a look. "Um?" I felt confused. He laughed softly, "relax, this place is decent." He said as he got out and ran around to open my door for me and took my hand, helping me out. I giggled, and he pulled me by the hand all the way to the bar. Inside it was like any other bar, but just cleaner. Everyone greeted him by his name, and the people here were strangely beautiful. But I had this dark feeling looming over me as they looked at me. I smiled politely and kept my mouth shut. There was something scary about their presence. We walked up to the bar, and he opened a tab and ordered a beer for himself and a coke for me. He handed me my coke and took my hand. We sat down in a booth at the back. He sat across from me and smiled. "What?" I asked him. He shook his head, "you just got in a car with a guy you barely know, and now you are drinking with him at a bar." He took a sip from his beer. "You are nothing like what I thought you were." He grinned. "I have done nothing like this before," I said, blushing. He sat forward "there's a first for everything." He winked, and the butterflies went crazy. The people here kept looking at us and he would wink at them or raise his beer and they would raise their drinks and continue. We sat and talked for hours and my phone rang; I saw it was Jeremey, and I answered it. "Hey Jeremey." I answered sweetly. "Where are you?!" he yelled. "I'm with Donovan, I'm fine." I cringed at his tone. "The hell you are!" He shouted. I took a deep breath, "We are just getting something to drink and I'll be home soon." "Fine, if anything happens to you. I'm going to kill him!" He didn't sound happy, and I knew he was angry with me. "I'm fine, see you later Jer," I said and ended the call. Donovan looked at me in question. "I have a concerned big brother." I smiled, and he chuckled. We ended up playing pool and after losing the entire time; I called it quits and went back to our booth. Donovan's phone rang, and he excused himself. Returning around half an hour, frowning. "Everything okay?" I asked with a smile. "Yeah, I have to head home." He slumped in his seat and downed his beer. "Let's go, Gennybean." He smiled and held his hand out for me. I took it and walked out with him to the car; he opened my door, and I got in. The drive was less fun. He seemed a little preoccupied. Something was bothering him, and I wanted to ask him but decided not to push it. We stopped at my house. He got out and opened my door for me. The front door opened, and Jeremey walked out, looking like the protective brother. "Hey, Jeremey." I smiled, and he squinted at us. "Hi," Donovan said as he walked with me up the steps. "Good morning," Jeremey said and looking at both of us. We both stood in front of Jeremey and I closed my eyes, waiting for a scolding. "The next time when you pick her up, she has to be home at midnight." Jeremey smiled and walked back inside, and I stood there blinking. "So, do you want to do something tomorrow night?" Donovan smirked as he leaned against the railing. "Like what?" I smirked back. "Anything you want?" He winked and walked down the steps. I smiled and went inside; Jeremey was waiting for me in the hallway with a big smile. "Ooh, another date?" he sounded so excited and I just laughed as I walked past him, "I'm serious when I said you should be home by midnight!" He yelled from behind me and I just smiled.
