Stand by the Bad

Introduction

Hi My name is Marlyn and I am 16 years old and soon I'll be turning 17th. I live in New York city with my parents. I'm their only child so they love me with all their heart. My parents are one of the best and prestigious doctors in the city. They are really good at their work which makes them the highly paid surgeons of New York city. 

I am very studious and till now I have always topped all of exams and I also want to be a successful doctor like my parents. Being the most successful doctors in the city, my parents are always busy in attending seminars, lectures and surgeries. So I have always been surrounded by nannies and servants to take care of all my needs. My friends often refer me as a "Princess", as being the only child, I have been given every facility one can even think of. 

I am part of my school's math Olympiad team and the captain of cheer leading team. sometimes it seems like that this whole world revolves around me and nothing bad can happen to me as I was way too lucky for everything.

My life was just perfect and I had everything I have ever wished for, loving parents, awesome friends, perfect grades, and a dream to follow. I could have not asked for more, but as they say you can not change the future, if it is destined to happen it will happen. I never thought that my life will not be same and this weekend everything is going to be changed. 

Friday :

I got my grades for the weekly assignment and as usual, I have again got A+ and my teacher was very happy with my research work on the given assignment and I was on the top of the world. I am very happy as weekend has just started and this is the time when my parents stay at home and we spend some time together, before they get busy in their so occupied profession. I opened the door and suddenly I heard my parents shouting on each other. This was the first time I ever heard my parents talking in loud voice or shouting on each other. Their voice seemed so restless to me. Trust me I was not trying to overhear their conversation so I went ahead and knocked the door. I heard my father saying, "Come-in". I went inside and noticed there was a dead silence in the room, my father hugged me and asked " Marlyn, did you hear anything." I simply nodded my head in denial. I was still confused by the look on their face as they were trying to find words to tell me about something.

Suddenly my mother came near to me and she hugged me really tight due to which I felt short on breath and she asked, " Marlyn you know we love you a lot". I nodded my head in agreement and said Marlyn also loves you a lot mumma. She hugged me back. I was still trying to process that what is actually going on. Suddenly I heard my father clearing his throat and I started paying attention towards what he was about to say.

"Marlyn, your mother and I have been selected to relocate to another countries.". Your mother has been selected as the HOD of the cardiology department in a very prestigious hospital in Israel and I have been assigned with some research work in Cuba." My father stated.

suddenly I was surrounded by so many thoughts, like do I have to choose between my parents, how I can live without one of them. Since I have born, I have never seen them parted from each other.  Oh God why it has to be like this, why my parents can not live together. how I'm gonna manage my school and other things. I was overwhelmed by all of these sudden thoughts and then one of nannies knocked at the door. 

"Sir, we have packed bags and all essential things for Ms. Marlyn. also the driver has arrived and the limousine is has ready to leave". My faced turned pale as I was trying to process that why my things are being packed and kept in the limo. Suddenly my father continued and said that "we have decided that until we are not coming back, you will be staying with your Granny in Kentwood.". It was a bummer for me, till now I was thinking that I have to live without one of my parents but it turned out that I have to live without both of them. I wanted to protest and tell them that no I'm not going any where without them. I want to stay here, being with my friends however, I may the only child who was raised with lots of pampering but still haven't cross talked my parents decision or orders ever. I have always followed and respected what has been said to me. I nodded in agreement. 

My eyes were full with tears and my assignment paper with A+ was still in my hand but I had no courage to show it to my parents anymore. My father continued , : " We have already informed your grandmother , and all the arrangements has been done. From Monday you will be joining Kentwood Academy ". My parents were sure that I'll not face any trouble in Kentwood Academy as my granny was one of the prestigious member of the Kentwood Academy council. Having said that My mother asked me to get into the limo so that we can reach Kentwood before the night falls.

I sat inside the limo and started to think that what has just happened. Few minutes ago I was happy and planning to spent my entire weekend with my parents. I wanted to tell them that I can not stay alone without them, I need them to tell me what needs to be done and what not. I haven't taken a single decision in my life and yes my 17th birthday is also approaching and they promised me to take me on vacations. I was overwhelmed with all of the thoughts, who would have thought that my life is going to change completely. Just now I was in a big city like New York and now I am moving towards the small town like Kentwood.  I was trying to pretend to be happy however deep down inside my heart I was upset and heartbroken that they didn't even give me a chance to say good bye to my friends and my old life. I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not realise when I fell asleep.
