THE DIG
As we exited the tented enclosure, we walked side-by-side toward the dig where the team had already resumed work. In our quiet passage, I wanted to ask more questions.
“Okay,” I said, “you found a gold nugget with some scratches on it.”
“Yes,” Tesa replied.
Aggie turned to face her and get her reaction. His face registered that he already had his own opinion, perhaps he already knew the answer to my question.
“And,” Alana jumped in, “if he found a Lydian coin …”
“We can’t actually say that he did,” Aggie interjected as Tesa looked at him.
“If it was a Lydian coin, how much more important is that than just finding gold?” Alana asked, but Tesa avoided the question.
