CATCHING UP ON CALLS I wanted to use the afternoon to check all my notes and make some contacts. I called a friend in the States about staters, and he confirmed their rarity and value. “You mean trites, right?” he asked for confirmation. “No. Full staters.” “Oh, yeah, wow. Those are really rare. Did you find some?” “I’ll get to that later.” I asked him about the cultural meaning that might attach to them, but he had no direct answer. “Ancient coins and their value—that’s my field, Darren. Questions about their importance to the countries and cultures from whence they came is out of my league.
