"Maggi wake up, wake up! Lesson is over and everyone is out", Mia kept tapping Margaret. Margaret woke up and saw that the class was deserted. She slept throughout the whole lesson again.
"Why were you late? And why did you sleep during class? I called you four times last night, why didn't you pick my call?", Mia asked with her hands on her hips.
Margaret frowned, she knew Mia was about to start her questions and answers session again. Mia was always trying to act like the protective mother and she hated it. She wasn't ready for all her drama again.
"I slept too much that's why I was late today", she answered
"You slept too much and got here late and you still slept through class again? Are you that sleep deprived?", Mia asked again.
Margaret took her bag, "forget about everything Mia let's go"
Mia looked at her friend who is now like a sister to her. She was concerned and wanted to help but she didn't know how. The Magaret she knew back then wasn't like this.
At least she was happy Margaret still speaks to her. She is the only person Margaret speaks to apart from her parents since the accident happened.
Yes they've all lost Cherise but it seems Margaret is still not over it. They were all best friends and she also missed Cherise so badly. Its been a year now but Margaret still hasn't gotten over it. She has drawn herself away from everyone. She comes to school late, doesn't do her assignments, never picks her calls and always locks herself up in her room.
As they walked out of campus she looked again at Margaret. She had lost weight, her eyes that held so much life in them were now dull. If someone had told her Margaret will look like this a year ago she wouldn't have believed it. But here she was looking at her best friend and feeling so helpless. She wants to help her best friend but she didn't know how.
"I want to help you Maggi", Mia said.
Margaret heard it alright but pretended she didn't as they both walked back home.
Mia lived three houses away from Margaret's. As they walked they were each lost in their own thoughts. Margaret was thinking about the guy from last night and how to shut him up whilst Mia also thought about how to help her best friend.
A deep beep sounded in Mia's left pocket, it was her phone. She picked it up and then suddenly remembered. She promised to watch her brother, Jason, play basketball today. She knew how her brother loved basketball and she couldn't fail him. How could she forget?
"Maggi, today Jason will be playing and we have to be there to cheer him on. I think you should come too, it'd be fun"
"No I have a headache I think I'll just head straight home to have some rest", Margaret replied
She didn't want to be part of a group of crazy teenagers screaming on top of their voice all in the name of cheering. She wanted to be alone but she was sad Mia was leaving.
"Alright I'll pass by your house tomorrow morning. Take care and call me when you get home please", said Mia
Margaret just nodded slightly and walked away. Mia stood there watching her back, she wished things could change. She wanted to see Margaret happy and back to her former herself. She turned and began walking back to school again with thoughts of Margaret on her mind.
