What Imma didn’t tell Gift, or LuChi and Nath, was the battle he had fought to summon the courage to tell his mom about Gift. Or about Mama’s reaction to the news of his new faith. Or the conclusion Mama had reached about the connection between Gift and his conversion to Jesus. Or about why Imma had left home early.
Can’t share any of that yet.
When the Fellowship meeting at Gift’s Church ended, Tessie reminded everyone it was time for the gang’s celebration of the new Imma.
“Where do you want to go, Imma?”
“I’ll let Gift choose.”
“Anywhere you want, as long as it’s Commint Buka or Merilyn’s Kitchen,” Gift answered, drawing laughter.
They piled into Imma’s car, with Gift of course in the front seat and the other four squeezed into the back
