Chapter 2

Sierra's POV It's been almost 4 years since the fire behind my parents' horrible death. The fire started by the Lycan king. And ever since then, my life has been a wretched mess. My parents had shockingly willed everything over to Sienna and of course, Sienna was never one to share so I was basically left broke. I ran into the building. I knew their death hadn't caused that much of an impact as it caused to me, but to marry the Lycan king… I ignored Shae and walked right into her office, but I met no one there. "Where's she?" I asked Shae. "I don't know. She never even left. Everyone's been looking for her and her number isn't going through." Shaw's face fell in worry. I wasn't worried. I was furious. "She'd better return fast. I need answers!" I said, the anger dripping from my tone and I walked away. Kelly was cleaning up when I walked into our apartment, the contract paper still in my hand. "She didn't, did she?" She asked and I shook my head, "Your face gives it all away." "I'm so sorry, Kel. I'm still gonna try to f…" "What's in your hand?" She asked after the papers. "A contract. And you won't believe what it's about." I said, the anger rising up to my throat once again. "Marriage to the Lycan king." "WHAT?!" Kelly's hands flew to her mouth, "You're gonna marry that bastard?" "It's for my sister. That sly betrayer." "Then why's it with you?" "She disappeared somewhere and they mistook me for her." "I can't believe she'll do that after what he did to your family. Lemme see that…" She grabbed the paper from my hand. "100 WHAT?!!!" Her eyes flew open at the sum. "Yea, it's a lot but money isn't a problem to Sienna…" "But it is to you…" Kelly's face lit up suddenly. "Huh?" "This can clear your debt 10 thousand fold." She continued. "Don't be foolish, I'll never do it." I waved her off, I couldn't even believe she was suggesting what she was. "Think about it. You've been seeking revenge against the bastard right? All these years you spent looking for proof, taking a loan to study criminology… all of that." She edged towards me with excitement. "What're you trying to say?" I squinted at her. "You'll be the closest you can get to him. You can get as much evidence as you need. You can finally get your revenge," she suggested, "and also pay your debt and stay alive. Plus, it's only for 6 months. What's the worst that could happen?" I thought about it for a second. "You missed a vital point though. It's for Sienna." "Your twin," she interjected, smiling mischievously, "and according to you, they mistook you for her." "What about when she gets back?" "What if she doesn't by tomorrow," Kelly pointed, "It says here that it needs to be signed by tomorrow and crucial to protect our pack from a war." "I can finally get the opportunity Sienna had." I muttered, thinking distantly. Kelly was right! Plus it was either I faced death tomorrow by the sharks or this… but this was to marry the man I hated more than the devil. Whom the thought of his mere existence disgusted me. "I can't," I said. Kelly opened her mouth to object but I interrupted, "My no is a no. There's no price for such. I'll go to Sienna again tomorrow, I'll fix this some other way." Kelly sighed in frustration. *** "What?!" I exclaimed in dismay, "no one can reach her until now?" "I can't understand why it's so either. I've tried all her lines." Shae complained, she looked very stressed, "A man came in earlier for urgent business. He said he needed to get signed papers from her today!" My heart sank in my chest. "Where is he now?" "He left but said he'd be back for it." Shae looked absolutely distraught, it was hard not to feel bad for her. I could imagine all the pressure she must be under right now. Kelly called, I rolled my eyes and declined it. She clearly wanted to badger me about taking the deal. I dialed my sister's number a few more times in vain before I decided to turn to head out and bumped into a hard chest. His scent filled my nose… that scent… "You again?" I heard the stranger 's voice from yesterday. My anger flew up. "What're you doing here?" I asked with annoyance. "I should be asking the security. Could've sworn this was a rodent-free environment." He said in a cool tone, his facial features unmoving. "What…?!" I basically shouted, but he interrupted. "Are they here yet?" He turned to Shae like I was a waste of time. Annoyance pierced my soul painfully, I almost winced. But yet, something about this man made me so…restless. "No, not yet." Shae answered. His jaws clenched, "Remind them that no one makes me wait." I scoffed. How pompous. He turned to me and I was ready for another round before my phone beeped. I opened it to see a picture of my friend tied up and at gunpoint with another message: 'Before 6 tonight. In full!' It was the loan sharks! And they wanted full payment now. My heart sank, my breath pace heightened. "Are you okay?" The stranger asked. I grabbed a pen from Shae's desk and sprinted to the bathroom immediately. I opened the papers and hurriedly signed them. Every single doubt I had about this had completely faded into the distance. I wasn't about to lose another loved one. I left the bathroom with a pounding heart and shaky legs. What if I was caught? Would they lock me up?... Exile me?! Maybe even k…? My thoughts got interrupted by the sight of Aloha Maxim and his lawyer thoroughly interrogating Shae. She was fidgeting and sweating all over. I can't lie, so was I? Her eyes met mine and she hurriedly pointed at me. The two men stared at me intensely. "Yes!" The lawyer beamed, "She's here!" But Alpha Maxim didn't seem too pleased. I walked towards them while giving Shae the eye, she ignored it. "Where the hell have you been? Don't you know how important this is?!" Alpha Maxim scolded, "He's not a man to be kept waiting! What if he's changed his mind?" I opened my mouth to defend myself but Shae immediately interrupted, she definitely knew about my lack of fear or manners for the elite. "He said he'll be waiting," she said. 'Wait, hold on a min…' I thought to myself. "And why're you dressed like this," he looked at me, his face cringing in disgust. Okay! That was it! "Hey! I don't know who the f…!" I started but got cut short by an exclamation. "There he comes!" What was it with these people cutting me off?? I looked ahead to see him, but before I saw him, I smelt him, that overpowering smell which blurred out every other. "No way…" I muttered to myself distantly. He paused in his tracks when he met my gaze and the eye contact made my wolf, Mia, restless, jumping for joy. "Wait a damn minute." I thought out loud, squinting before my eyes widened with his in unison and I heard Mia whimper the word, "Mate!"
