Chapter 4

1682 Words
Sierra's POV Louis and I refused to break eye contact until Lucas spoke. "This is Sienna of the Waterfront Pack. She's the one I said I'll be marrying temporarily for political purposes," Lucas announced with minimum enthusiasm. My heart hadn't stopped pounding and I could swear Louis hadn't blinked. He was clearly in a state of shock and confusion. I needed to speak to him privately before he said anything. The thought of speaking with him 'privately' made Mia giddy. It was getting annoying. This wasn't the time! "Is she going to be staying here?" Luthor asked with annoyance. I could already tell he was the hardest to please here, possibly even worse than Lucas. "Yes, for 6 months," Lucas answered. Within the twinkle of an eye, Louis had hurried to my side and dragged me out of the house into the garden. Mia whimpered. "Would you like to tell me what the hell is going on?" He asked, his eyebrows creased up with desperation. I was desperate for answers too. "The part where you kept your relationship with the Lycan king a secret for 5 years?!" I shouted with anger. I could barely process anything right now. Louis rubbed his eyes, "I didn't want to be isolated cause I was a lycan in a werewolf pack and when I found out about Sienna's suspicions about his hand in what had happened to your parents…" "SUSPICIONS?!" Suddenly, the rage I had neglected to entertain my mate bonds was released in ten fold. I could see the concern in Louis' eyes. "That's far from my point. What're you doing here?" He changed the subject. I calmed down immediately I remembered my current predicament. "Umm.. I was kinda in need of money…" "So you took a marriage deal with your sworn enemy." "Is that impossible to believe?" "I know your sister has moved on from the past, but you…" he paused, "you're here for revenge, aren't you?" "I'm here for a lot of things. Sienna is nowhere to be found and it was an emergency. I had to fill in for her." "That's an exc…" he started but I cut him short. "If you say a word about any of this, Sienna will be in danger and so will I. It's only for 6 months, Louis." I begged. At the mention of Sienna, he relaxed. He looked at me intently before he nodded. "Fine, but you won't try anything stupid." "No promises." I said as I walked away. It was when I had gotten in that it occured to me that I hadn't even addressed the bond issue with him. I smacked my forehead with my palm and hit a man wall. I looked up and nearly jumped out of my skin. Luthor was looking at me deadly. His dark grey eyes held power and fright and it made my knees buckle. "Watch where you're going," he said in the coldest tone I'd heard in all my 21 years on this planet. But, for some reason it excited me and not just Mia. "She never does," Lucas interrupted us. Then he turned to me, "Be prepared, we have the announcement to make to the people soon." I opened my mouth to say that I hadn't even rested but he completely ignored me and walked away. Luthor chuckled wickedly and I shot a glare at him. It did no good. He simply stared at me, piercing those compelling eyes into mine. My throat went dry as my eyes flew down to his lips. I felt insanely hot inside. We were so close… "Perv," he muttered quietly as he moved away from me. "Huh? What do you mean?" I gasped, walking after him. Just like Lucas, he pretended I didn't exist. I pulled his hand. "Stay away from me!" He growled at me. I shook a bit but maintained my stance. He was the only one who had acted like he didn't know about the mate bond, I was curious about it. His long legs strided away and I had to scurry to meet up with his pace. I followed him through the back garden and out of the estate into a beautiful clearing. He stopped suddenly and I bumped into his back. "Lucas was right, you really don't know how to walk," he sneered at me. "Are you always in a rotten mood?" I blurted out, immediately regretting it the moment I said it. "You really have no manners, do you?" He squinted. "I see you've been speaking with Lucas a lot. What else has he told you about me." I rolled my eyes. I couldn't believe I was acting like a b***h to my favorite lycan. "I don't talk to Lucas," he said as he sat down on the ground, I joined him. "Why?" "Why's it your business?" He sneered at me again. I sighed and silently apologized to Mia, this was clearly a futile task, the man had no interest in me. Suddenly, the fountain lights came on and lit up the place to an amazing view. I gasped loudly, my entire face lighting up at the sight. Then I heard a weird noise… like that of a hysterical dying horse. I turned to see Luthor chuckling. The noise may have been unnatural but the sight… Damnn! "You're so easily amused," he said. "I didn't know the estate could have something like this," I explained. "We're no longer in the estate, dummy. I made it myself," he said, and I could sense a bit of shyness in his tone. "Over there," he pointed at a stone, "That's my mother's grave." "I'm...I'm so sorry…" I tried to sympathize even though I knew I sucked at it. "Don't be," he cut me off as he raised his knees from the ground, "You see my mum wasn't a wife of the king, she was only a concubine so it was a taboo to lay her body on the estate grounds. I had to bring her here by myself instead. Nobody but Louis knows that though." I could see the sadness in his eyes when he talked about his mother even though he tried to conceal it from his voice. "I lost my parents when I was 17," I said without thinking, somehow it finally felt safe to talk about it, "they were burnt to ashes when we found their bodies in the fire. I can never forget that sight." My voice cracked at the last statement. My heart broke to pieces for the millionth time in painful memory of it. "An accident," Luthor finally turned to me, his grey eyes gentle to my gaze. "It wasn't an accident." I said in defense. I could feel the tears stinging my eyes, ready to fall. "Who did it then?" He asked and I only stared back at him. "HAVE YOU GONE MAD?!" I heard Lucas' roar from behind me. My heart did a 4ft high skip and my hands flew to my mouth as I suddenly remembered about the announcement we were supposed to make. Lucas towered over me, his face twisted in a rage. I could feel the cold sweat dripping down my spine. "The one job you had and you still managed to ruin it," he gritted his teeth, trying to curtail his anger as he moved towards me. Luthor pulled me to his side. "It's my fault, leave her out of this," he said with so much authority, I almost forgot who was king. "Stay away from this, Luthor." Lucas responded without diverting his gaze from me. "I wo…", Luthor started. "Your King commands it!" Lucas ordered and I could feel Luthor's grip around my wrist loosen up. My heart rate quickened as Luthor reluctantly left us. "Do you realize what you've just done?" He asked menacingly as he continued to move towards me. I hadn't realized I'd been backing away from him until I'd hit a tree. "I had no idea…" "Do you imagine that you can take my money and then do as you please?" He interrupted, his eyes glowing red, he was clearly about to shift. Oh dear, I wasn't ready to face a Lycan, there was no way I could survive it. "Wait, your money…? It was yours?" "You're the most selfish, mannerless, insolent brat I've ever come across," he continued, ignoring the question, "it's so clear your parents failed in their responsibility." That struck me bad, right in the chest. It pierced my soul considering the fact that it was this bastard who had killed them yet he spoke so carelessly about them. But I couldn't say anything, instead Mia did. "You're one to talk about responsibility, you've paid no attention to the mate bond given to you by the moon goddess. You act like it doesn't exist, talking about selfishness!" "You want to know what I think about our mate bond…?" He asked as he squashed a bug with his shoe, my heart broke. I was furious! I was letting my family's enemy make me feel this way. I was a betrayer! "As it's stated in the contract, no romantic relations between the two parties are allowed for the 6 months," my eyes widened as he said it and he scoffed at it, "you didn't read it, did you? All you clearly cared about was the money." I couldn't stand back and take these insults, no. I opened my mouth to defend myself but he shut me up by saying the most painful words I had never wanted to hear, every wolf's nightmare; "I, Lucas Reign, reject Sienna Callister as my mate and future queen." The tears that'd been stinging the back of my eyes were let loose. He had said all those with a spiteful look in his eyes boring into mine and I didn't know which hurt more in that moment; Being rejected by him or being despised by him. How could I let my parents' murderer have such an effect on me? And how the hell was I supposed to untangle myself out of this mess?
