REY
"Bro, see this." Kellen extended his phone to me. I took it from him whilst stepping on the brake to slow down. The headline caught my attention first; The latest 'It couple', which was written in all capitals, before the pictures.
It was a picture of when Lee and I were at the restaurant and the person even took one where she had hugged me not long ago. I wondered who the stalker was as I handed the phone back to him. Then, her name flashed in my brain.
"That bitch." I muttered because I knew it was all her doing. She must have sent one of her goons after us.
"Did you even ask her out?" Kellen questioned whilst letting out a deep sigh.
"Who, Alyssa?" My lips curled up as I mentioned her name.
"I don't care about that slut. I'm talking about Lee." He said.
"Why?" My eyes narrowed as the image I had of them earlier in the restaurant flashed into my head again.
I trusted Kellen wouldn't sleep with any girl I wanted, but what if he had without my knowledge?
Anything can happen, right?
"No, I mean, it's not your thing to ask any girl out since they were like toys to you." He said, emphasizing the toy.
"Toy, really?" I glared at him for referring to me that way.
"Only the stupid and clingy ones," I asserted.
I reverenced females that are intellectual like my mom. Even as Nora was so little, I admire her too because she wasn't as dumb as most grownups. Same for Lee as I didn't attempt to take her integrity the fast way.
"Did you ask Lee out?" He repeated, exasperating me.
"Do you like her?" I challenged, willing him to disagree but he didn't.
"This date wouldn't have happened if you had said something the first time I asked. Heck, I wouldn't even feel like bedding her. Also, I'm so grateful to you for quenching my libido for her!" I said, glowering at him.
"Since nothing happened, I still have a chance with her but she wouldn't even notice me," Kellen said, shoving his fingers through his hair.
"Maybe you should try changing your face to mine since everyone seems to love me," I smirked, wiggling my brows.
"In your dreams. Besides, there is only one person that hasn't shown interest in liking you."
"That witch, Winter," I muttered.
She was exactly as I described her.
She never stopped trying to rile me or getting herself into trouble. Also, I couldn't resist thinking about her these days, she must have cast a spell on me for my mind to be so focused on her.
"You know and I love her for it." He snickered.
"You love her too?"
"I got my eyes only for Lee," He declared.
I switched off the ignition as I halted in front of his house.
"Thanks for the ride, bro." Kellen stepped down on the moonlight lighted porch.
To the left of the porch was a trimmed lawn- like how the rest of the houses in the town had. His consisted of varieties of roses which were mostly tended by his mom whilst mine different flowers filled it and the gardener came to trim it before it overgrows.
"You are always welcome bro and oh, don't j******f with Lee's picture in your mind," I yelled as he reached the entrance.
"i***t, " He covered his mouth abruptly whilst glancing from left to right. "Language." He added later as no one was there.
Kellen's mom was stricter than mine and she detested the use of vulgar language. She does collect a dollar each for every cuss word Kellen or I use whenever I visit him.
That woman should be wealthy now as millions of vulgar words literally spill out of our mouths. However, we often escaped without paying her.
**************************************
A strange car which wasn't in the lot before I left now sat there as I got home. I stepped down from my car, locked it and went to access the other car.
My hand went to unlock it, surprisingly it opened but there was nothing to show who the owner was as I rummage through it.
This was weird as we had never had any case of robbery or a burgle since our arrival. I went back to my car, took a bat I had acquired since my arrival here. I had bought it with the knowledge of running into any gang so I could defend myself, but Sunny Height was a peaceful town.
I tiptoed to the entrance, careful not to make any sound. Perhaps the criminal was indoors holding my mom and Nora captive.
The mere thought of it made me boil for I would kill anyone that laid, even if it was a single finger on them.
As I moved closer to the door, I heard Nora giggling which didn't sound like someone who was held hostage. My mom said something too, her voice sounded somewhat forceful meaning something wasn't right.
Why was Nora happy and mom agitated? I mulled.
I needed to find out anyway. Luckily the living room curtain was up. I stepped beside the lawn where the window was and bent to its height. Gradually, I stood but I wished I hadn't.
He was here, the beast was here.
His eyes roamed around the living room noticing how it had changed since he left some weeks ago.
Remaking of the wall was a routine we didn't discard even as we got here because anywhere he entered needed to be sanitized by repainting it except his room which we never cared to even enter.
"I don't remember having this colour the last time I was here and I can't count how many times you've changed this damn wallpaper." He stood up, striding away from my line of vision.
I answered the question for my mom as she was about to reply to him. "That's because the mere sight of you is pollution. Wonder what the freaking f**k you are doing here." I said with a clenched fist.
I didn't realize Nora was still here until she spoke up.
"Rey, what's Pollution and fweekin fwuck?" Her innocent eyes lifted to mine.
"Um," I scratched my head as I tried to come up with something.
Screw me. How would I explain to her they were the terms used for the man in front of her instead of the papa she calls him?
My mom rescued me out of my misery as she hoisted her on her waist.
"I often cautioned you about your language, don't make me do it by washing your mouth with detergent." She warned.
"Sorry ma'am, " I grinned sheepishly at her.
"Mom, I want to stay with Papa," Nora said, wriggling her body.
"Stay put and It's past time for you to be in bed."
Nora groaned, bobbing her head. "Will you read my favourite story for me?"
"Yes, angel." Mom said moving to Nora's room beside mine.
"You are the best and Rey too," Nora shouted.
I confronted the man in front of me as their voice sounded far away. "We don't need you here. You see, we are getting on just fine without you showing your f*****g face."
"You have the guts to talk to your father back now, right?"
"You lost the right to be called that long again." I flung back and went further to move away from him as he drew closer.
I stepped into the kitchen, ignoring him as I felt a pang in my stomach. I brought out a carton with half juice in it. Then, I took some cookies with me.
"Kindly show yourself out when you are done," I mumbled with a cookie to my lips as I strode up to my room.
"I'll be back." He chuckled, moving to the door.
"Yeah, go kill yourself," I said to his retreating back and that would be the best thing for him to do since he would be doing us and the universe a favour by removing himself from existence.
