Bittersweet Affection

Since freshman year, Winter had been affectionate towards the charming yet broody Rey Leslie from her year.
She had anticipated the day they would start up a conversation and get to know each other.
And as fate would have it, that day came sooner than expected. However, not for the reason she would have wished.
Her heart shattered into a million chunks when she learnt that Rey was after her best friend, Lee.
Giving up was not an option for Winter though. Even after months have passed since Lee and Rey got together. She, however waited for the perfect moment to get her chance and that was what she got when they kissed.
Rey Leslie first glance upon Winter made his heart ceased beating as he thought she was someone he knew and once loved.
When it appeared everything was going well, the bane of his existence came into town, threatening not only his life but Winter's too.
Excerpt:
"What?" My questioning gaze shot up to his narrowed ones. I didn't want to talk to him because of what happened earlier, however, I have no choice than to as he was fussing over me.
"Are you hurt?"
"Do I look like I am?" I retorted.
Shaking his head, he chuckled, "But steer clear of people like Aaron in house party like Owen. There are a bunch of others like him, waiting to get into your skirt."
"Like you are one to talk," I said.
"I don't chase skirts. They come to me rather." He deadpanned.
"Excluding my skirt though."
"You sure about that?" He murmured, drawing near.
My comeback got stuck in my throat as Lee surfaced. She scowled as her gaze landed on the compromising position we were in......
