REY
People gathered at the pool table as soon as I stepped inside. I shuffled nearer to see what they were gawking at.
My jaw slackened as Winter's hand went to the back of her dress to her zipper. Her hand clutched the hem of her dress and was about to slide it up her body, I surged forward to halt her but Kellen beat me to it.
He clasped her hands in his and lifted her off the table to the ground.
She flapped her arms and a nutty grin plastered on her face as she stuck out her tongue whilst pinching his cheeks.
I barely left her for a few minutes and she got drunk. She kept whisking into one trouble or another. Because of her, I had left the house earlier after the statement the one who shall not be named who birthed me made about seeing her. I had sped out to pick her up because he had left hurriedly and I assumed he was going to the school area. Knowing him, he would seek her out, as well as attempt to strike a conversation with her.
I had gotten there hoping she would be glad to see me. Not expecting the irritation that graced her face, the witch had blatantly rejected my offer and walked away without glancing back. I didn't back down though and I had followed her at a close distance until she got to her house.
"Keeeelleeeenn." She slurred, wriggling in his arms as she tries to push him off.
Her visions drifted to where I was, then she dived out of Kellen's arm on wobbly legs as he attempted to steady her on the ground.
She slammed into me, wrapped her arms around my body tightly. She planted moist sloppy kisses all over my face and I groaned. Even in her intoxicated state, she nonetheless manages to turn me on.
"Reyyy." She slurred and I caught a whiff of the substance she took.
Grimacing, I kept her at arm's length, staring at her face. It seemed someone had spiked her drink as I perceived the nasty scent of weed I do take. She hiccupped whilst mumbling incoherent wordings.
"What did she take, Kellen?" My brows lifted as my gaze drifted from her face to Kellen's. Winter hopped here and there as she ran out of my grasp. I waited for him to deny what I thought she could have taken but he didn't.
"The bartender slipped something..."
I didn't wait for whatever he was going to say, as I marched towards the bar. I clutched the shirt of the boy tending the bar, scrunched it up and delivered a blow to his face.
His face cracked under my fist and my hand was stained with blood from his broken skin but I didn't care. I kept on delivering blows to his face until someone gripped me from killing the bastard.
"Owen!" Someone yelled.
"What's going on?" Owen stepped into the crowd that had formed around us.
"Tell, your f*cking bartender never to slip anything in her drink whenever she's here." I pointed to Winter who was hopping up and down beside the pool.
"I thought Lee was your girl?" Owen's narrowed whilst c*****g a brow.
"Yeah?"
"Why are you so worked up on her?" "I saw your exchange with Aaron earlier, I didn't interfere because it was amusing. Getting yourself worked upon an ordinary girl that isn't even yours and for all we know, she could be some random slut you wanna taste." He smirked, brows wiggling at the last statement. He stopped when he saw the ferocious flash of my eyes.
"Let it go, Owen," Kellen growled, as well as struggling to steer me away. I shrugged his hands off my shoulder.
"She's my f*****g friend. Y'all expect me not to care?" "Geez, I'm not like y'all. I have a heart. Even if she were to be some random slut, I'll still freaking care." I shoved a hand through my hair in exasperation.
"Just go, Rey. It's obvious you're not in your right state of mind." Owen declared, pointing to the exit.
"Yeah, I'll f*****g leave your freaking house and party!" I hollered, booting the barman one last time before stalking towards Winter.
"Reyyy." She wobbled forward as she noticed me, dropping another sloppy kiss on my cheek. I knew she wasn't in her right mind. Winter would never do this if she was sober.
Her hands went around my neck and she drew me tighter, nuzzling her head into my shoulder.
Clingy much?
I wasn't bothered a bit. Instead, my arms wrapped around her on instinct.
"Geez, I wasn't even gone for an hour and you're all over my man." Lee darted out of nowhere, tugging Winter away. She landed on her butt and howled.
Lee's mouth lifted to kiss mine but I shifted my face giving her my cheeks instead. Her breath reeks of alcohol, she, however, wasn't as drunk as her friend.
"Babe." Her nose scrunched up as she pouted.
"Reyyyyy."
My gaze drifted to Winter, struggling to stand. She staggered towards me, shoving Lee away.
Lee stumbled and was about to plummet face flat on the floor, but Kellen caught her.
Geez, why do I have two drunk girls vying for my attention?
I was more concerned about Winter though as the content of what she took was harsher than Lee's.
Lee sulked as I carefully hoisted a passed out Winter on my shoulder whilst walking out of the club. She heaved into Owen's Lawn as soon as we stepped out into the night air.
Kellen's hand patted her back as she emptied the content of her stomach. Snatching the sealed water in a plastic container lying on a nearby chair, he opened it and handed it to her to drink. Lee washed her face first and she rinsed her mouth before drinking.
Her hands were in between her head as she rose.
"Where's Winter?" She moaned, her eyes flickering between Kellen and me.
I pointed at a sleeping figure in the back seat of my car and she gasped.
"Is she okay?" She mumbled whilst checking her pulse.
"For now, yes but tomorrow she would wish she hadn't come to the party." I grimaced.
"Geez, she never wanted to come and I should have watched over her too," Lee said, still looking at her sleeping figure.
"Come on, let's get you two home," I said whilst steering Lee to the shotgun and fixing the seat belt for her. As I drove, Kellen's car followed behind.
I stopped at Winter's lot. It was semi-dark outside and didn't look like anyone was home until the light came on inside. Lee alighted, I did the same and assisted her with Winter.
"I wonder what this girl is eating." Lee groaned as she stumbled whilst supporting her weight.
The door opened immediately and we got to the entrance. A young woman came out with a red silky robe. I didn't get the chance to see her face because she took Winter from me immediately and assisted her in. Before shutting the door, I heard her mumble her gratitude.
Lee came out not long after and I drove her home, Kellen still followed suit.
"Hey, you okay?" "Back there, I thought you'd kill him," Kellen said as I backed out of Lee's doorpost.
"I wished I killed that i***t," I mumbled.
"It wasn't his fault. I should have stayed with her since I brought her to the party. Also, I guessed I forgot it was her first party. I mean the first real party ever with booze."
"Yeah? So, you would babysit a full-grown girl?" My brows lifted and I watched him shrug.
The first time I noticed she was talking to Aaron at the party, I knew I had to step in. Not because I liked her.
Ugh! I like her.
I couldn't deny the feeling she awakened in me whenever she was near. However, she couldn't stay out of trouble. That was my major problem with her.
I wished to be there for her when she awakened, to be the one that would hold up her silky brunette lock when she empties the entire content of her stomach. The one that would take her back to bed, telling her to sleep it off after she had taken some pain relief for the splitting headache of the aftermath.
I was freaking sounding like someone getting married and telling his best friend how he would care for his drunk wife.
Groaning, I remembered the sloppy kiss she had planted on my chin. The feel of her soft pink lips on my cheeks. If she had been sober, I would have kissed her right there. I had to caution myself not to succumb to the feeling because she was tipsy and because of Lee, my falsified girlfriend.
I didn't want her to get hurt though I didn't ask her to stay with me. She wanted to but I promised never to hurt any girl's feelings- the reasonable ones that never want to get into my pants. I wished she realized Kellen's feelings for her sooner.
"Do you like her?"
"Lee?" I said, acting dumb even as I knew who he referred to.
"Winter. Do you? I have never seen you so angry and protective of any girl. I saw the way you had confronted Aaron too."
"It's a long story bro," I said. "I'll only give you the brevity of it."
Kellen nodded and waited for my narration. He rested on the hood of his car, glancing at me.
My gaze went to the night sky. Million stars that seem few below blinked. It was now my favourite thing to do, looking at the stars because it reminded me of her. Her name was also part of the start which was known as the morning star- Venus.
"It started after the pairing as I was trying to rile her. I guess I find her cute though irking. She also reminded me of Venus." For the first time in four years, her name didn't cause a c***k to appear in my heart. I grinned as I tested the name on my lips again.
"Wow, aside from you mentioning her name in history class that day you were on the verge of a panic attack, it seems you've moved on." Kellen parted my back, grinning.
"I guess. Though I don't know if Winter likes me and I need Lee to cut off ties to shooting my shot."
"Are you scared you might get rejected?" He teased me and I rolled my eyes.
"You should probably talk to Lee," I said, changing the subject.
"I'll try but seeing tonight she seems to be so into you as she fought for your attention." He grimaced.
"What can I say, I'm hot and sexy. Girls can't get enough of me." I smirked.
"Eww. Stupid girls are into you." Kellen pointed out gagging.
"Lee and Winter?"
"Winter was drunk, she'll never do that in her right state of mind and Lee isn't stupid. I meant those sluttish girls that want a piece of you." Kellen stated.
"Yeah, whatever."
"I'll try talking to her. Wish me, luck bro." We fist bump and get into our respective cars. We backed out of Lee's driveway to our respective houses.
I was grateful the beastly car wasn't in the garage as I drove into the lot. The confession with Kellen played back in my head. Aside from liking Winter, she was in a lot of danger because of the presence of the man in town who had come to destroy everything I have and anything concerning me as he had vowed four years back after losing a case and his reputation.
Losing a case and his reputation wasn't enough though, If only he could drop dead or move far away from us, however, it was wishful thinking. He was very much alive and nonetheless with us. He would stop at nothing to get what he wants and I would stop at nothing to protect my loved one.
