WINTER
"Hey, Winnie the Pooh," Rey called out, waving as Lee and I strolled past the football pitch. I rolled my eyes and waved back. It was weird how we were behaving like casual friends. We just began talking today and he has given me a nickname which I was stuck with since he had called me more than fifty times today in everyone's presence and he did it by yelling.
"Winnie the Pooh?" Lee questioned and continued. "And when did you start talking to Rey?"
"Since we were paired and he said he did not intend to call me my real name anytime soon since "Winnie the Pooh" seems cuter!" I giggled, quoting his words.
"Are you saying Rey found you cute?" Lee inquired, frowning.
"I wished," I murmured.
"He only said the name is cute, not me. Also, I know he was just teasing me."
"Who knows if he finds the bearer secretly cute too." Lee prompted as we sat down on one of the bleachers.
"He asked me out."
"Who?"
"Rey, dummy." Lee giggled. "That's what I wanted to tell you until Miss Kyle caught us. "
He ‘asked me out' kept ringing in my head. Outrage trickled into me. My best friend stole my man, someone that has started noticing me!
"When?" I let out through gritted teeth which Lee didn't seem to notice as she was busy ogling the football players on the pitch.
"Oh, last night at Owen's party. " She giggled, perhaps remembering what went on.
Though no one had invited me, Lee had. Also, I had declined not giving it a second thought.
I had frigging declined! If I hadn't, Rey would have noticed me yesterday. For four years I had been in Sunnyville not today. I had lost to Lee. My eyes watered and I blinked back the furious tears threatening to spill.
Rey might not have even wanted to be with me if I had been present. He moved mostly with popular girls and slay queens.
I was none. I wasn't even a nerd, to begin with. I was just a student going to Sunnyville. Alyssa had made sure I didn't get a spot on the popular seat and I wasn't overly smart to sit with the nerds either.
"Are you alright?" Lee gripped my clenched hand, unclenching it.
I know I shouldn't be mad since Rey barely knew me, still, I was.
"Yeah. " I mumbled, my gaze drifting around the pitch. The players were all sweaty due to the rigorous training they were undergoing. Then I saw Rey leave them, jogging towards us.
"s**t, He is coming this way!" Lee squealed whilst clutching my hands.
"Hey pooh, " Rey smirked at Lee who had a nonsensical grin plastered on her face. He turned back to me, walked closer and tugged me away from where I sat.
“Hey!" I yelled whilst attempting to stop him from dragging me.
“I need to tell you something." He said, grinning.
It must be something important and for our ears alone for him to want privacy. Rey halted some metres away from the bleachers, then let go of my hands. I frowned, a bit disappointed at the loss of contact.
"So what's the meeting all about?" I folded my hands across my chest whilst waiting.
I caught a glimpse of Lee, her brows creased as her gaze fixated on us. Though we were a few meters away, I could still see any reaction she made.
Rey didn't answer my question. Instead, he scratched the back of his head whilst glaring at the ground. His head lifted and his azure orbs locked on mine.
"Our first meeting would be at my house, and be there at noon. " He smirked.
"Wait a minute. " I gripped his wrist as he was about to leave. "Is this why you asked me to see you after practice?"
"Yeah, what else?" He snickered.
Also, the reason he freaking yanked me away from my seat.
I had for once thought it would be for something reasonable, like him asking me to go out... No, Lee already has that spot. At least, something pleasant and I didn't expect my meeting him after practice to be for this reason.
I should be at home binge-watching my favourite TV show on Netflix instead of waiting for the whole day to be reminded of the time for our project. Facepalming, I glared at him.
"Hey, babe."
Alyssa sauntered toward us. She hugged Rey and he tugged her away. Giggling, I dodged as she threw the ball with him at me.
I jogged back to Lee. The scowl, still evident on her face.
"What did you discuss?" Her eyes narrowed whilst searching for mine.
"It's about the venue for our project. " I shrugged and her expression softened.
"He didn't ask me out. " I added, making her giggle. "You know girl's code six."
“Never crush or accept a date from someone that is with your friend.” We quoted.
"You wished. "
Our face snapped to Alyssa. She was two-seat away from us. We might have been talking too loud for her to hear us.
"Both of you wished. " She snapped her finger, flipped her hair as she moved closer.
"Oh yeah. He did ask me out. " Lee retorted.
Alyssa tossed her head back and tittered. "Rey is mine and mine alone. He belongs to me as this school belongs to me. " She snarled.
"Oh, be sure to turn on your internet on Monday night since we will be going, officially. " Lee yelled at her retreating back.
Lee was calm but not so calm. Though she was never one to seek a fight like I, she could put a b***h in her place with just the world of her mouth. Also, she was the shy type and I often wonder how she manages those personalities in her so well.
"I didn't tell you that either. " Lee facepalmed as she saw my startled expression.
I took in her features as she apologized.
Lee was one of the most gorgeous girls in the school. A slim build with a smallish oval face, long blonde hair reaching below her waist and she always wore it in a ponytail. Her sea-green eyes sparkled whenever she became excited. She was of average height, two inches shorter than I was.
Overall she has great features, so I wouldn't blame anyone who falls for her.
"I need to get something done at home," I said, making up an excuse for I was tired of hearing about her and Rey.
"There are some things I would like to tell you. " Lee said.
"I'll tell you in our sleepover, tomorrow."
"I'm sure it's gonna be juicy, " I mumbled, rubbing my palms together.
"Oh, you are going to love it. " Lee licked her lips.
I rolled my eyes, laughing. She was still my best friend even as she would be going out with Rey.
"Bye, " I waved as her chauffeur came to pick her. She insisted they dropped me off but I declined the offer. I needed to stroll home to put my thoughts together.
"Your lost b***h, " Lee yelled as the Toyota Crosstour window rolled down.
I flipped her the middle finger and I heard her laughter before the car went out of view.
**************************************
My happiness was short-lived as a silver Ferrari parked in front of me. I was already ten minutes away from home.
"Get in," I rolled my eyes and walked away. "Because we were paired doesn't mean you can stalk me."
"You wish. I was only trying to save you from s****l predators." Rey let out.
"s****l predators? Here?" I laughed at how absurd it sounded. This was the most peaceful town I had ever lived in.
Okay, I had only been to two towns, still, it was the most peaceful as I have never heard of any chaos since here.
"Whatever, just get in or I'll slam into you."
"You wouldn't dare, " Glaring at him, I gripped my backpack tighter.
He stepped down, unlocked the passenger door and shoved me in. He swiftly got into his side and locked both doors.
"You don't even know the direction to my house, " I pointed out after several seconds.
"I do." He said.
I peeked at him with interest. What else did he know? Had he been stalking me?
Maybe he saw one of my files.
He knew where he was going truly as he stopped at the driveway.
"Thanks, " I said, flashing him a smile.
He held me back for the second time today as I was about to open the door.
"It's nothing... want to be friends?" He asked, stretching out his hand.
My gaze travelled from his outstretched hands to his face.
Another weird feeling: Rey that always portrayed himself badly wanted to be my friend or was he after what was under my skirt? Perhaps, he wished to befriend me because of Lee and the project but he seems so genuine about it.
Though I didn't trust his fast offer of friendship. It sounded shady but I didn't care either. I wanted to be close to him and this was an opportunity I wouldn't like to miss.
"Friends," I said, taking his hand in mine.
His large hand enveloped mine, giving me a tingling sensation. I hastily withdrew my hand from him but that didn't stop the foreign feeling burning through me.
"What?"
"Nothing." I bobbed my head looking at anywhere but him.
"You don't shake boys?"
He raised an eyebrow staring at me with blue orbs.
I felt my face flush as he continued scrutinizing me.
"I do but err..." I stuttered.
So awkward!
"Bye," I said, quickly.
I alighted, walking inside without glancing back so as not to embarrass myself any further.
I flung my backpack on the brown couch in the living room and moved to the opened window.
Rey's car sat in the driveway for several seconds before he left.
Sighing, my gaze moved heavenward as I sent a silent prayer to get over him soonest.
Also, today wasn't all that bad as I thought it would be since Geography and History were sorts of jinxed, I got to talk to Rey which was exhilarating and aggravating at the same time.
