Chapter Seven Darkness began to settle in the area. The soldiers of King Sverre could see their breath as wisps of frosty air. Their march on the Jamt armies had slowed to a virtual standstill. Sverre turned to his able lieutenant, Leifand asked, “Do we press on with the attack?” “No, sire, we wait till morning.” “Aren’t the peasant fighters spoiling for a fight?” “I say we let the peasants distract them and save our best fighters till the morn.” “Apt. Make sure we know where the encampments are and ready the troops for a surprise attack as the sun rises.” The attack was a success, it wasn’t clear how much the peasant fighting had contributed, but the Jamt army spent far more time running away and being stabbed in the back than actually fighting.
