I met him when I was 16 years old and I was living in Hong Kong. We didn’t start a relationship straight away, because he just came to Hong Kong for a visit. He was seven years older than me. I thought: ‘he is handsome, he is tall, he is very attractive’. He was from Australia, which was somewhere unknown to me, so that was fascinating. We started just writing letters or communicating with each other by phone call.
Then my parents sent me to Australia to study when I was 21. He asked me out. And after a few years of communicating with him, I thought that I knew him, but actually, I didn’t. When you are not living with the person, you don’t know. I hadn’t had any experience of a serious relationship.
