I wake up in the morning and Mike is sitting beside the bed working on his laptop.
"Is she ok?"
"Let's get you in the shower, babygirl."
"I don't like that answer."
"I'll explain. Let's get cleaned up."
"Am I going to school?"
"No."
"Mike, please tell me."
"The easiest way to say it is: her body healed the trauma. You couldn't heal the trauma because it was already healed. When you sent the magic in, it reversed the healing her body did. It took her right back to the original trauma. She's in a hospital. In a medically induced coma. It's like the accident just happened. The doctors are working to keep her alive."
"What now?"
"You have to try again. The trauma is fresh now. It's our best guess. You'll be healing the original trauma. It's all we can think of trying."
"Guess?"
"Yes. The charts, documents, scans, pictures. They are nearly identical to the ones taken right after her accident."
"Round 2. I don't have as much strength though."
"Let's hope you don't need it."
He gets me cleaned up and gives me a big breakfast. Then we fly to a hospital. People are crying in the waiting room. I don't know why. I think that's just what people do in waiting rooms. We get escorted to her room right away.
Drogon and Cyrus are sitting with her parents. There are flowers all over the room. "Where's Conner?"
"Getting coffee."
Her dad looks like hell. His eyes are so red. "We told everyone it's some kind of relapse. I don't even know what the f**k I said." He wipes his eyes then drops his head and sobs. "Please, do something."
I look at her lying lifeless in the bed. She has at least 10 tubes going into her. Sticky pads are everywhere. So many machines are hooked to her. There's a big thing in her mouth. It looks like it goes down her throat. "This is how she was after the accident happened?"
"Yes." Her mom falls over her dad's lap and cries.
He holds her tightly and cries with her.
I sit beside her on the bed and put my hands on her head. "We can't stop now, Katen. I'll keep trying. You hold on." I push magic in again.
She lies completely still. Then blood starts to trickle out of her eyes. I see blood on the pillow under her ear. I close my eyes before my own tears fall.
"LOOK!" Her mom screams and my eyes pop open.
The flowers all around us are dying. Her eyes are fluttering. They run to me. I shake my head. "Don't."
"We're not moving. Keep going, please."
I hear the door slam and keep going.
Katen's eyes pop open and there's no blood in them. They look perfect.
I push magic in until I can't anymore. Then I pull my hands away. "That's all I can do. It's not going in anymore."
She reaches up and pushes my hair back. Then she tries to yank the things out of her throat.
Her mom shoves her dad. "WAIT. HAL, GO GET THE DOCTOR."
The door slams again.
I look around. Cyrus is the only one in the room with us. "They went to get coffee."
I tilt my head and he winks at me. Then he pulls me off the bed. We stand together at the foot of her bed. I lay my head on his shoulder and he rubs my arm.
Hal drags the doctor in by his coat. "This is a damn miracle." The doctor pulls the tubes out of her throat. "How do you feel? I can't believe you're awake."
"My throat hurts."
"That happens. Let's get you some water." He helps her sit up and sip the water. "What do you remember?"
"Everything." She looks at me and nods. "I remember everything. Thank you. How did I get here? I was in the woods."
"We'll talk about that later, baby." Her mom rubs her hair.
"Some sort of relapse is all we can figure out." The doctor reads his chart. "We need to do some more scans. But it may be over."
She smiles. "It's over."
"How do you know?"
"The fog is gone. I can think again."
"I still want the scans to make sure. But this is very promising. I'll send the nurses in."
"Thank you."
I look at Cyrus and yawn. "I need a nap."
"Yea, you've been awake for a whole hour now." He winks and looks at her parents. "You'll probably need naps today too. You were close to her, and she will drain your life force when she's healing."
I nod. "We can try again after you're stable. But I couldn't get any more magic in now."
"I don't think I'll need it. But, thank you."
Her mom runs over and hugs me. "Anything you ever need, you ask. I owe you so much."
"You don't owe me anything. I'm glad I could help. Hopefully, this is over and she's perfect again."
She wipes her tears away and Cyrus leads me out the door.
My boys are standing there.
"She's tired. I'll sit with her today. I need to talk to Dacious about some stuff in Eldervale anyway. Katen is awake and saying the fog is gone. The doctor has ordered some tests."
"That works."
"Where did you guys go?"
Conner hugs me. "I went to get coffee."
"Cyrus threw us out." Drogon kisses my head. "You drain people's life force, and we can't really participate in that part. We have to be kings."
"Yea, you boys probably shouldn't sleep all day."
"At least you're awake." Mike picks me up and spins me.
I giggle and hug him. "I love you."
"I love you too. We're going to go to work. You take a nap then make Cyrus do every single thing you can think of to help you relax."
I laugh as he puts me on my feet.
Cyrus side eyes me. "You better not."
Mike smirks. "She'll tell me if you argue with her or don't do something." Then he leads the other 2 out.
Cyrus puts his arm around me. "Where would you like to relax?"
"That bungalow."
He chuckles and grabs his laptop. "I already reserved it."
A few hours later, I wake up on the day bed. The ocean breeze and the tropical shade trees are keeping me cool. Cyrus is sitting at the table on the porch with his laptop. He's talking to his brother about a church... I think.
"What?" I stretch and look at him.
"Nothing important, baby. Let's get some food while you're awake."
I hear Dacious. "I've been awake, darling."
"Not you, dickhead. I'll connect later."
"Alright, asshole. I'll be here."
Cyrus shuts the laptop and rolls his eyes. "He is something else."
"You are funny together. I'm hungry, and I need to smell the flowers."
"I'll check for the chef. I don't know if we can get one at 3. Then we can take a walk."
"Ok."
I straighten myself up while he goes inside. I fix my dress and hair. I wonder if he brought me another swimsuit.
"You're beautiful." He leaned against the doorway watching me. "The chef is on his way. Let's take a walk."
"Did you bring me a swimsuit?"
"No. Please be naked."
We laugh and walk down the beach. He records me while I smell every flower I see and pick up seashells. "Why are you recording?"
"Drogon wanted video clips of you relaxing. This works."
"Did you record me sleeping?"
He chuckles and looks away.
"Cyrus."
"Only for a minute. You looked perfect sleeping on the daybed with the breeze and all those tropical plants around you. I almost climbed in with you."
"You should have. I would have liked that."
"Too hot out, babygirl. I would have made you hot."
"You always make me hot." I smirk and run to our table. The chef is sitting down our food.
Cyrus thanks the chef and pours me a glass of wine. "Don't drink it, you'll go back to sleep."
"Then why give it to me?"
"So, I can record you at this perfect table, on an empty beach, with the ocean behind you."
"This whole place screams relaxation."
"It really does." He records me and the scenery for a minute. Then he sits down and eats with me. "Thank you for the last couple of days. I know you're busy. But I love this."
"I love it too. Everything is always so easy with you."
He smiles. "I love you."
"I love you too."
He kisses my head with tears in his eyes. We snuggle together and eat our lunch. Then I get the bright idea of taking a bath. The bathtub is huge with a floor to ceiling window that looks out over the ocean. I order every single thing I can find to take a relaxing bath. By the time it gets delivered, and I get the tub set up, I am exhausted. I climb into bed and go to sleep.
I wake up with my boys in the room with us. Cyrus is on his laptop. Dacious is laughing his ass off on the screen.
I giggle and jump for Mike. He catches me and spins. "What are you doing in the honeymoon suite with him, woman?"
"Sleeping basically. We had lunch. I smelled some flowers. I decided to take a bath, but that was exhausting. I fell asleep before I got in. He's very good at the relaxing stuff."
Drogon kisses my head. "You don't even smell like him."
"I told you. She's been sleeping off and on all day. I got some videos. Made sure she ate. She loves this place."
Conner picks up a paper. "They do a couples massage on the beach."
"She would go to sleep, Conner." Cyrus shakes his head and goes back to his laptop. "I do want to record that bath though."
Mike about drops me. Dacious loses it.
"Not with her in it. Just the bath. Once she makes it all girly. I'll record it for a minute. It'll be a good clip."
"Who wants to get a massage with me?" Conner's on the phone trying to schedule it.
Mike glares at him. "I... Just... Go outside."
Drogon follows Conner out. "I could use a massage."
Dacious is trying to pull it back together.
I wiggle off Mike. "I'll tell you when the bath is ready, Cyrus. I'm going to do that now."
"Thank you."
Mike stands in the middle of the floor rubbing his eyes.
I make the bath perfect. So many bubbles. I put candles everywhere. Soaps, scrubs, and oils sit on the side of it. I sit out big puffy towels. It has a tray on it. I put a book and a glass of wine on it. Then I turn off the lights and let the candles do their job. The sunset over the ocean adds to the relaxing effects.
"I'M READY NOW."
Mike runs in. "Ok."
Cyrus comes in and records it.
I climb into the bath after he leaves. Then Mike gets in with me. We wash each other and snuggle as the sun goes down.
After that, it's time to go home.
