Ch2
“I, Dillard Mathews, promise to protect and serve my Pack Full Moon as Alpha with every breath in my body. To put their needs and safety above anything else.” My father cut his hand and mine as he transferred his title of alpha to me. I had worked so hard for this moment and I couldn't be happier. I just wished I had my mate to share it with. My best friend and Beta Aron slapped me on the back in congratulation. I let it go because he is my best friend. We walked around talking with our pack as members congratulated me before the pack run and then the bonfire later tonight.
It is still amazing that just a year ago our pack went from one hundred and fifty members to three hundred members overnight. I could still remember it like it was yesterday. We had taken in all the fleeing members from the rising moon pack after they were attacked.
Me and some of the best warriors went to see if we could help in the fight and find more survivors. When we got there everything was on fire. We found bodys here and there, some really badly wounded and some dead. Whatever happened there was bad. It didn't smell like rogus had been there even though it had looked like their handy work. The only thing I could smell was the spicy scent of Cinnamon. I had followed it hoping to meet my mate at last but I had lost it deep in the woods. The only thing I did find that day was a destroyed pack. All the high ranking wolves were dead or missing and their alpha, barely hanging on to life in front of what was once their pack house now in flames. We rushed him back to our pack hospital with hopes that he would make it but he slipped into a coma. He has not woken up since. Hopefully one day he will wake up and tell us what happened. Until then his pack was my pack. Nobody knew we had him. The whole thing still feels like it was an inside job but I can't do anything without proof which is fine with me. I will just enjoy the new family I have and they are talented and amazing.
I shift with a howl to signal the start of the pack run. It feels amazing to do it this time as their alpha. We ran to our western border and then to the northern border. As we reached the border, memories of the year before came crashing back. With a howl I pushed my pack to run hard not wanting the past to ruine this wonderful day. We pushed to the eastern border. As we got close my blood started to boil with anger for the pack on the other side. They didn't help when their neighboring pack needed them. I led us back to the pack house full of anger and rage for the things that had happened in the past.
“Hey man, you should go get a shower and calm down before the party.”Aron says, jogging up to me. I just nodded my head and went into the house without a word. After a long hot shower and sitting in my office; I knew it was time to join the party.
There are blankets and chairs all around the training field behind the pack house. The bonfire is lit and the food smells good. The omegas have really outdone themselves tonight. I grabbed a drink and started walking around chatting with some of our visiting alphas and old friends of my father.
"It was so kind of you to take in the members of the rising moon pack. I still can't believe their alpha abandoned them in their time of need." Alpha Johnson of the blue falls pack stated. My father went to say something but I gave him a look that it wasn't the right time.
"It is my pleasure to have them as part of my pack. We are all children of the moon goddess after all." I said with the best smile I could give. There had to be a reason that their alpha couldn't do his job that night.
"Hey don't let us old alphas spoil your night son. Go have a little fun. Who knows you might meet your mate tonight." My father said with a smile. I just nod my head and walk on. I have to admit we have some beautiful she-wolves in the pack, and some of the visiting alphas had brought their daughters with them. Sadly they were not my mate. I walked around a little longer but what Alpha Johnson said was eating at me. I mind link Aron to let him I was turning in for the night.
I begin walking back to the pack house but I end up at the hospital on the alpha floor. Greeting the grads outside the sweet before walking in to check on our visitor.
"He hasn't changed since you were here this morning." Doctor Stephanie stated as she was taking his vitals.
"I wish he would wake up. We all need an explanation of what happened that night." I was angry. I had let that old alpha into my head. How could he say that about the alpha who's pack he had shared a border with. Who he didn't even help in the fight. He didn't even offer aid to the people as they ran for their life.
"He will wake. He may not have alpha blood but his blood is strong, he just needs more time." Stephanie reassured me. I hope so cause if his blood wasn't alpha blood then who was he.
