Meeting him again

1100 Words
The moment the interrogation ended, they didn’t waste a second. Rough hands shoved me toward the door like I was nothing more than a loose piece of trash. My heart thundered in my chest as their leader’s cold eyes bore into me. “Lati,” he warned, voice low and dangerous, “don’t mess with me. Get this mission done — and fast.” I swallowed hard, the sharp sting in my chest reminding me just how much power he still held over me. I adjusted my rumpled clothes, forcing calm into my voice. “Noted. You won’t have to wait long.” Without another word, I pushed the door open and stepped into the night. The cold air hit me like a slap, but I kept my eyes forward. I didn’t look back. I hailed a cab with shaky fingers. The world spun as the city lights blurred past my window. Every bump in the road felt like an echo of the warning still ringing in my ears. When I finally reached home, the door barely closed behind me before Sophie appeared. Her eyes were wide, filled with worry that made my chest ache. “Lati! What happened?” Her voice trembled with fear but had no room for questions yet — just pure concern. I sank down on the couch, trying to steady my racing thoughts, then told her everything — the dark cellar, the pain, the threats, the cold warning etched into every word from the boss. She sat beside me, silent for a moment, then hurried to bring me a glass of cold water. “I’m about to make dinner,” she said softly, “What do you want to eat?” The warmth of her care was a balm on my bruised spirit. We ate quietly, the buzz of the day hanging between us. Our minds tangled With one thought how to get closer to Sebastian without burning down before we even began. We ate,we danced,we drank not just a little a lot “Cheers to our little miserable mission”l said before sleeping off The next day I woke up to the rising sun and a serious hangover because of the alcohol we drank last night. I couldn’t even do the chores l just took my bath and put on a comfy wear I went to the kitchen about to drink coffee,l know I have hangovers and still drinking coffee silly me.l heard my phone ringing in the sitting room so I went to pick it up. Unknown number. Then sophi came downstairs still in her pj’s “Lati, pick up the call will you” “It’s an unknown no,so it means don’t pick up” Few minutes later, the same number called back and l had to pick it up “How dare you not pick up my calls, you playing cat and mouse huh” “Ooh boss I’m sorry I never knew it was you” “Your resume has been prepared go to the Reign enterprise” “Re…su….me.. “Just go,you’ll be his personal assistant, remember don’t mess this up” “Yes Boss” Few minutes later I heard another call.l was about cursing the person on the call when I heard “You’re fired” “Fired?you can’t fire me,what exactly did l do” “You ticketed a rich man’s car that’s what you did” “I was doing my job,so… “Not just any rich man,you tagged Sebastian” “Ooh I see where the problem is,you know what you are among the problems in this country,Lastly go to hell” I was angry and a little excited because l got a new job after all and l must not fail this. “Hello. Who are you, and why are you here?” a sharp voice demanded. “My name’s Laetitia Donovan. I’m here for the assistant position,” I said, trying to keep my cool. The guard sneered, “Sure you are. Dressed like you’re about to rob the place. That’s a first impression.” I ignored the jab. “If you don’t mind, I don’t want to be late.” “Not so fast, criminal.” Suddenly, a man’s voice interrupted. “I had no idea what possessed my son to hire you lot as security. Will you please let go of that poor woman?” “But sir, we didn’t know she was here for a job…” “Neither did I,” another voice said. A tall man stepped forward, eyeing me closely. “Mind sharing with the class father” I swallowed the sting of that insult. *I wonder if he even remembers me.* Surely not—a nobody like me. Wait, is that the girl who gave me the parking ticket.Sebastian thought Silence filled the room. But Tatum’s glare pierced me—intimidating and cold. His father stayed silent too. Sebastian’s guards looked torn between their two bosses, as if their parents were divorcing. I cleared my throat, trying to break the awkward tension. “I’m not here to cause trouble.” The man—Sebastian’s father l thought —smiled slightly. “You’re no trouble, Miss Donovan. My son, on the other hand, can be arrogant. He should learn some respect.” Sebastian snapped, “I don’t need an assistant. I’m the one in control here. Got it?” His tone was so condescending I could almost feel it dripping from his words. I matched his gaze, bold and unbothered. “Sounds like someone doesn’t have much control at all. Would someone who’s really in control be so bothered by not having any?” His eyes narrowed. “Intuitive little thing, aren’t you? “Maybe exactly what Sebastian needs—someone to put him in his place.” He smirked. “I can be intuitive too.” “Well, well, well. Someone’s projecting. Maybe you feel a lack of control so bad, you took a job assisting someone else’s life. Or… were you blackmailed?” He sneered, “So, cupcake, go home.” “Did he just call me cupcake?” I fired back. He’s not getting away with that. “I’m here to stay.” “Go home.” “I don’t think you know what you're asking of me, calling me incompetent or cupcake.” Suddenly, the my tone softened. “Speaking of cupcakes, you must be hungry. Can I get you anything?” I chuckled softly. “There she goes with that mouth of hers again” His uncle smiled and said, “You’re hired.”
