She isn’t the one to distinguish people right away but she have this hunch that her neighbor could be a p*****t by the way he is looking at her. He feels off in a way that his expression is like going through her, let alone he never smiles at her. As she was informed, his name is Tom, he got the house as a will from his parents, and he lives alone in it, not having visitors for a very long time. From the looks of him, you can easily tell that he has no wife nor children. Crooked teeth, slightly faltering steps when walking, and can only be seen outside when he waters his plants are three of the things that Aki noticed about him. She is kind of accustomed to it so she just get her gum and chewed it as some sort of comfort, and pretends that there is nothing going on at that point.
She drives as fast as she can and when she arrived in the hospital, Violet, a nurse with plump figure and a dark complexion that complements her nice, permed hair, is waiting for her and addressed her saying that she is going to have a meeting with the surgeon for an operation.
“Are there no other anesthesiologists available?” Aki asked.
“The patient is backed up by a well-known big business person. They want you to do it and they specially requested for you.” Violet answered.
They were like being chased by thugs as they quickly walked through the hallway. After a few minutes, they reached the room and Violet left, leaving Aki to a quarter with nothing but shrewd individuals.
“Dr., glad you are already here.” greeted another doctor with white hair and a glasses used by persons who are obviously smart (or those who wants to look smart).
“Shall we start? I have some important schedule in the late afternoon” Aki said with an adroit manner to not make the mood awkward.
“Sure” the surgeon replied quickly.
The discussion lasted for a few hours or so. At the end of the meeting, Aki checked her watched and it’s already 1:45 in the afternoon. She took her phone, went to her contacts and scrolled. There appeared the name ‘Emma’ with a funny emoji beside its name. It’s also the only number that has contact wallpaper in it. Aki called her while walking towards the exit, and Emma picked her call up immediately.
“Emma, I’m already done with the meeting. You’re still free?”
“Hey babe, yeah of course. The same time same place?”
“Mhm, will be there in a minute.”
“Okay then I can’t wait to see you, love you.”
“Love you, bye.”
Aki hung up the phone and rushed to the side where she parked her car. While trying to open the door, she felt something heavy was behind her, an eerie feeling. Without second thoughts, she looked back. To her surprise, she saw Tom. He smiled at her which was odd and out of decency, she smiled back at him.
Unable to rationalize things, she hopped and drove. The excitement swallowed her first, rather than minding how creepy her latest encounter is. It’s been a long time since she has seen her best friend. The café is about 20 minutes far from where the hospital is. She haven't eaten any meal that day so she is fazed while driving.
Green, green, red.
*whack*
“Sh*t” she cussed when she realized she crashed into a car.
How can this day get any worse?
“Argh!” The person in the car in front of her exclaimed as he gets out of the car making his way towards her direction. Some people who have seen the scene has gathered and is ready to observe what will happen next. What a great way to waste their time when they should just pass through and mind their own business.
A man in his late 30’s, probably a business man or whatever his job is, looked mingy. Worst case scenario as Aki envisions, is him attacking her and doesn’t want to settle. That case is more terrible than him taking her to the police station and filing a report. He knocked on her window where Aki immediately opened it. He was about to say something when Aki cut him off.
“Look, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I’ll cover the damages but I really have to go now.”
The guy looked at her with dismay and sighed.
“Miss, first things first. You need to get out of the car.”
He bent into her car and looked at her with an intimidating aura but Aki didn’t budge even though chills are passing through her spine and she wanted to beg him to let her go.
“I’m really in a hurry mister. This is my card. My name, the hospital I’m working at and my number is indicated there. I’m never running away from the responsibility.” Aki blabbered as she brought out a business card from the pocket in her front seat drawer. The guy then looked at it and his fierce expression mellowed down for a second.
“Now are we good?” she added hoping for positive answer.
