### Chapter 5: Pages of the Past

--- Aaryan’s silence filled the room with a tension that made Anjali's skin crawl. He didn’t yell. He didn’t storm out. Instead, he walked slowly toward the piano and ran his fingers across its dusty top, like a man revisiting the ashes of a memory. “She used to play this every morning,” he whispered, almost to himself. “Beethoven. Chopin. Even Bollywood melodies, just to make me laugh.” Anjali stood still, the diary clutched in her trembling hands. “I didn’t come in here to hurt you,” she said softly. “I came here to understand.” Aaryan turned to her, his eyes tired. “There’s nothing to understand. She’s gone.” Anjali hesitated, then offered the diary. “But her voice is still here.” He didn’t take it. He just stared at it — like it was both a treasure and a curse. After a long pause, he walked out of the room. Anjali looked down at the diary again, torn between guilt and curiosity. Her fingers opened the leather cover. **“Dear Diary, Today, I found something in Aaryan’s phone. I don’t want to jump to conclusions. I trust him. I love him. But… why would he hide her messages?”** Anjali frowned. Her? She flipped to the next page. **“He says it’s nothing. That she’s just a friend. But I saw the way she looked at him. There’s more, I know it. I can feel it. I don’t want to lose him.”** There was pain in Rhea’s words. Doubt. Insecurity. And heartbreak. **“I wish I could ask him openly, but he shuts down every time I bring her up. If anything happens to me, this is the truth: I loved him with everything I had. But I wasn’t the only one.”** Anjali felt her breath catch in her throat. Rhea hadn’t died peacefully. She had died in confusion… maybe even betrayal. She closed the diary slowly, her hands shaking. Could Aaryan — the cold, distant man she had married — have been involved in more than just heartbreak? And who was the mysterious *“her”* mentioned in Rhea’s writing? Was she still in Aaryan’s life? Suddenly, nothing about this marriage felt like a coincidence anymore. Anjali had walked into a stranger’s house. Married him for money. But now, she was surrounded by secrets. And if she didn’t uncover the truth soon… **She might be the next woman to disappear.** ---
