Observing their embrace and shared tears, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief for both of them. The fog of uncertainty had lifted, bringing clarity to their complex situation. I harbored no blame towards either of them; sometimes, life's twists and turns lead us down separate paths. There's a certain beauty in individual growth, and the challenges they faced allowed them to evolve independently. Separation, in some instances, becomes a necessary catalyst for personal growth. While it's possible to grow together, the profound self-discovery that occurs when navigating life solo is unparalleled. If two people are genuinely meant for each other, fate often finds a way to reunite them.
The year without Emily had been challenging for me, yet it granted me the opportunity to become more self-reliant in caring for Derick. Despite harboring guilt for not divulging the contents of the letter, I adhered to Emily's instructions, respecting her plan. Interfering wasn't my intention; instead, I aimed to provide support without impeding their personal journeys.

Curiosity led me to the mailbox where Emily had told me about the letter. There, I found a small brown envelope—the kind usually used for handwritten letters. Glancing around to ensure Derick was not nearby, I cautiously opened the letter, revealing Emily's familiar handwriting.
To: DEVIN
Dear Devin,
**You must be wondering why I wrote you a letter instead of Derick. Well, the truth is I don’t ever want him to know about my situation. My family is in deep financial trouble right now, and we’re planning to migrate. They intend to marry me off to a man abroad from an even wealthier family. I won't allow myself to succumb to that fate. I have one year left before I finish my studies. I plan to find a job and support my family so that I won't have to endure such a fate. Believe me, Devin, in one year, I will make it all happen. Please take good care of Derick for me, and I beg of you not to let him read this. I should be the one explaining all of this to him in person, so please do me a favor. I’ll come back after all of this. A year without me will be tough for him; please watch over him. I’m sorry I put you in this situation; I hope you understand, D.**
With love and regret,
Esmey Milan Layne.
Wow, this situation is incredibly challenging to navigate. It's astonishing how much can unfold in just one year. My heart aches for Emily, especially considering the sentimental value of the nickname Derick bestowed upon her—taking the letters and crafting the endearing moniker "Emily." It's a poignant blend of sadness and sweetness that encapsulates their unique bond.
Glancing over my shoulder, I notice Derick preparing to leave, prompting me to swiftly tuck the letter into my pocket. "D, where are you headed?" I inquire, but he remains silent, merely leaving in his car. The gravity of the upcoming year weighs heavily on him, and I can't help but anticipate the challenges he will inevitably face. The road ahead appears arduous for him, and my concerns for his well-being deepen.

Well, well, well, look who's back! Emily's finally here.
"Emily, welcome back," I greet them as they turn around to face me.
"Dude, wipe your face; you look like a child who lost his coins for candy." Their laughter fills the air, and I can't help but join in. Reuniting feels incredible. "Let's head back to the room and have a proper chat," I suggest, and true to my words, we make our way there.
As we return, I notice a decline in the number of people, presumably having gone home. "Go and find us a place to sit; I'll grab some food." It feels like déjà vu, but with a delightful twist. I observe them heading to the living room downstairs and follow suit, balancing a tray loaded with delectable treats.
Upon arriving, I find Derick gazing at Em, engaged in conversation with Dana. "Here you go," I announce, placing the tray on the table, and take a seat on one of the sofas. My eyes wander around the room, and I can't help but marvel at the surroundings. "How did you manage to afford this penthouse, Dana?" I inquire.
"Oh, it's my parents' money, and I contributed to it as well," she responds with a smile. "So..." she positions herself next to Emily, exchanging nods with her. "We have a confession to make."
Intrigued, Derick shifts his attention from me to them. This is undoubtedly going to be one heck of a conversation.
