YOU DON'T OWN ME

CHAPTER 10: The room got really cold when Kieran walked in. Kieran didn't rush in. He never rushes. Kieran walked in like he owned the place. Like everything in the room belonged to him. My breath got stuck in my throat when his eyes locked onto mine. His eyes were dark and intense and unforgiving. "It's time to come home " Kieran said, his voice low and steady. My fingers got tight around the hospital sheet. Every part of me was screaming to run. My body didn't move. Ethan stepped forward. Put himself between us. "Shes not going anywhere with you " Ethan said firmly. Kieran's eyes moved to him slowly. There was a smile in his eyes. "You " Kieran said quietly. "You're becoming a problem." Ethan didn't flinch. "And you're not supposed to be, " he said. Kieran tilted his head a little. "And yet I'm here, " he said. The two men behind him stayed silent and still watching and waiting. My heart was pounding louder every second. There was something about them that made my skin crawl. They weren't bodyguards; they felt more dangerous and controlled. "Kieran " I said, my voice shaky but determined. His eyes snapped back to me instantly. "Yes Amara, " he said. The way he said my name it was like it belonged to him, like I belonged to him, it made my stomach twist. "I'm not going with you, " I said. There was silence, heavy and dangerous. For a moment something changed in his face. But it was replaced with something darker. "You don't mean that, " Kieran said softly. "I do " I replied, my voice stronger now. His face got tight. "You're confused, " he said. "You've been through a lot." "No, " I said. "I may not remember everything. I know how I feel." ". How do you feel?" he asked quietly. My chest got tight. "Afraid, " I said. The word hit harder than I thought it would because it was true. His face got darker. "That's not fear, " he said. "That's manipulation." My eyebrows scrunched up. "What?" I asked. He looked briefly at Ethan. "That's what he's been feeding you, " he said. Ethan scoffed. "Don't do that, " he said. Kieran ignored him. "Amara, " he said, his voice softening again. "You're my wife." The word made something hurt inside me. "I don't remember that, " I whispered. "You will, " he replied. ". When you do you'll understand." "No, " I said, shaking my head. "I won't." He lost his patience. I saw in his eyes that calm control slipping, enough to show something dangerous underneath. "You don't get to decide that, " he said sharply. "I do " I shot back. There was silence again, the tension between us felt like it could explode any second. Ethan stepped closer to me. "She said no, " he said. Kieran's eyes moved to him again slow and deliberate. "And you think your opinion matters?" he asked coldly. "It does when you're forcing someone, " Ethan replied. Kieran smiled. It wasn't a warm smile. "I'm not forcing her, " he said. "I'm reminding her where she belongs." I got angry. "I don't belong to you!" I snapped. The words were loud and sharp and final. For a second everything stopped. Kieran stared at me, like he was trying to see something deeper. Then he took a step forward. Ethan moved instantly, blocking him again. "Don't, " Ethan warned. Kieran's face got deadly calm. "You're standing between me and my wife " he said. "And you're standing between her and her choice " Ethan replied. The air got thick with tension. The two men locked in a battle power against power, control against resistance and I was right in the middle. "Enough " Kieran said finally. He turned his head slightly. The two men behind him stepped forward. My heart dropped. "What are you doing?" I whispered. Ethan's body got tense. "You're not taking her, " he said. Kieran didn't even look at him. "Take her, " he ordered. Everything happened at once the men moved fast fast Ethan reacted instantly stepping forward to block them. "Don't touch her!" he snapped. One of the men grabbed his arm. Ethan shoved him back hard and the second man lunged toward me. I screamed. "Stop!" My voice echoed through the room. No one listened. Everything blurred, movement, shouting, struggle Ethan fought them. There were two of them stronger, faster and more trained. They pinned him back hard. "Let him go!" I cried. Kieran walked toward me slowly unbothered by the chaos like this was all under control like it always had been. "Don't do this " I whispered, backing away as much as the bed allowed. His eyes got soft. It didn't reach his actions. "I'm taking you home, " he said. "I don't want to go, " I said, my voice breaking. "You don't know what you want, " he replied. "Yes I do!" "No " he said firmly. "You don't remember enough to decide." My heart was pounding violently. "I remember how you make me feel, " I said. ". That's enough." He paused, for a second but it wasn't hesitation, it was calculation. "That will change, " he said. "No it won't." His eyes got dark again. "Take her " he said without looking from me. The man who had been holding Ethan stepped toward me. My entire body got tense. "No!" I shouted, scrambling back. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to run. He reached for me. Suddenly a loud crash echoed through the room. Everyone froze. The door slammed open and a group of hospital security rushed in. "Whats going on here?" one of them shouted. Everything stopped, like that the man reaching for me pulled back Ethan broke free from the other one's grip. Kieran didn't move, didn't react he just stood there calm, controlled watching. "There is no problem, " he said smoothly. "It doesn't look like it " the guard replied. Kieran's lips curved slightly. Then he stepped back one step. "Fine " he said. "We'll do this another way." My breath hitched what did that mean? He looked at me again, his gaze softer now but intense, still dangerous. "You can stay " he said quietly. "For now." Relief flooded through me quickly too easily because something about his tone felt wrong like this wasn't over not even close. "But remember this " he added. My heart slowed, enough to hear every word clearly. "You always come back to me." A chill ran through my body. He turned, walked toward the door, the two men followed the guards stepped aside and like that he was gone. The room fell silent and shaken. Ethan turned to me immediately. "Are you okay?" he asked. I nodded weakly. "I think so." I wasn't really because something felt wrong, deeply wrong. "He gave up easily, " I whispered. Ethan's face got dark. "I know." My heart started racing "What did he mean?" I asked. "By 'another way'?" Ethan didn't answer immediately. That silence, that hesitation, made fear crawl up my spine. "Ethan " I said, my voice trembling. "What does that mean?" He looked at me seriously, focused dangerously calm. He said it slowly "It means he is not coming back for you." My breath caught in my throat. I said "What?" Ethan's voice was very low. He said "He is going to make sure you go to him." My heart was beating fast against my chest. I asked "How?" Ethan did not say anything away. He just looked at the door. It was like he was thinking about what to do He was already thinking about what might happen. Then he looked back at me. He said the words that made me feel even worse. He said "By using something you can not run from." My chest felt tight. I said "What does that mean?" Ethan's eyes were looking at me. They were dark and serious and scary. He said "Your past." At that moment I realized something that scared me. I was not just running from Kieran. I was running from something inside me. It was something I could not remember. It was something that might take me back to him. It did not matter if I wanted to go or not.
