Time seems to freeze as Ariah launches herself at me, her eyes glowing with a terrifying hunger. My breath catches in my throat, and I can’t tear my gaze away from her as she closes the distance between us in a heartbeat. Her claws extend, and I brace myself for the impact, knowing there is no way I can outrun her. But before she makes it to me, a blur of motion sweeps in from the side.
