Stay In Line.

I walked to my chair slowly, my hands shaking as I dropped my bag onto the desk. I scanned the room for Sofia, but her seat was still empty. My chest tightened. I pretended to rummage through my bag, pulling out my textbook for no reason. They must have heard. News travels fast among werewolves, especially when it comes from my pack. None of my classmates were from my pack, but that didn’t matter. They knew. Everyone slowly returned to whatever they’d been doing, voices rising again. But I could hear it. Every laugh. Every murmur. I closed my eyes and clasped my hands together, trying to stop them from shaking. I felt like bolting from the room. Like if I stayed, something terrible would happen. I glanced around again, desperate to make sure none of my mates were in this class. Please. Just let me have this one space. Then it hit me. A sharp, sudden pull in my chest. My wolf shrank back, cowering. The presence was overwhelming. Hot. Sweat broke out across my forehead. I gasped softly, my abdomen tightening as if something inside me twisted. Slowly, I turned. He was sitting by the window. He lifted his gaze from outside and locked eyes with me. Blank. Cold. Unreadable. He looked rough. Untamed. The collar of his uniform hung loose, sleeves unbuttoned and pushed back. White socks. Dark slippers resting casually on the desk. Like he didn’t care who saw. His blond hair was messy and wild. His skin looked rough. No way. My heart skipped violently. Was he… the Alpha? His stare made my skin prickle, fear crawling straight down my spine. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to breathe. No, I was overthinking. The Alpha couldn’t just appear out of nowhere. Right? “Attention, class.” Miss Seraphina entered the classroom in her usual black heels, a red marker in her right hand. She wore a fitted silver suit and skirt, smiling confidently at the room. “This time, you’d better pay attention,” she said. “Fail my class, and you’ll repeat it.” She smiled sharply before turning to the board. I sensed him moving. He climbed down from the window and sat in his chair. Our eyes met again. My chest tightened. I spun away and faced Miss Seraphina, my hands damp with sweat. I just hoped this day would pass without trouble. The lesson ended. I stood and checked the attendance book. Sofia wasn’t here. Why didn't she come to school today? I frowned. She was at the ceremony last night. What could’ve happened for her not to come to school? I stepped into the hallway, lost in thought, and bumped into someone. It was him. When did he...? “I—” He walked past me without a word and entered the classroom. I stared at his back as he moved casually to his chair. Then pain hit me. A sharp discomfort twisted in my abdomen. I pressed my hand against the wall, breathing slowly, hoping it would ease. It felt like cramps, but stronger. “I don’t feel right…” I whispered. My knees gave out. Heat flooded my body. Sweat poured down my skin as the pain spread everywhere. My wolf panicked inside me. “What’s going on with her?” a student asked. “Is she in heat?” another girl whispered. “I doubt it,” someone replied. “I don’t smell anything.” My body burned. It felt like my organs were being dragged through my bones. I cried out as people rushed toward me. Everything blurred. Then darkness. When I opened my eyes, I was staring at the ceiling. The infirmary. I sighed and tried to sit up, but sharp pain shot through my abdomen and down between my legs. I gasped and lay back down. An ice pack rested on my stomach. The curtain moved. The doctor stepped inside, smiling. “How are you feeling?” she asked. “I’m… fine,” I croaked. My voice sounded strained. “Don’t worry,” she whispered. “Once your body calms down, your voice will return to normal.” “What’s… happening…?” I coughed, feeling choked. “Shh.” She placed a hand on my chest. “Everything will be fine. You just need to rest. I’ll explain later.” She reached into her coat and pulled out a syringe. “What’s… that?” “Nothing harmful,” she said calmly. “It will help you sleep.” She took my arm and injected it. Pain exploded through my veins. My body jerked violently as heat burned through me. “Roooaar.” My wolf cried out. I tried to pull away, but she forced my arm down. She was far stronger than she should’ve been. My heartbeat slowed, then pounded painfully. I couldn’t move. Something crawled beneath my skin, burning wherever it went, paralyzing me. My eyes wouldn’t close. “You are so pathetic.” Footsteps approached. “Omega Soraya,” a male voice said coldly. I tried to speak. My mouth opened, but no sound came out. “You’re dying today,” he continued. “She gave you two injections. That will speed things up.” He smiled down at me. “No Alpha would submit to someone like you. You’re a disgrace.” His hand squeezed my face. “Die already. This is boring.” Was I… dying? “You make me sick.” My heart raced painfully, each beat worse than the last. Was this the Alpha’s judgment? Had he decided I was no longer needed? What about my family? My throat closed. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t move. “I guess my blood worked.” Another voice. There was someone else here. “It truly worked. He will be proud.” He laughed out loud. “Who sent you?” Nero? “Got the nerve to question me?” “What are you doing to her?!” I still couldn’t move. I heard Nero yelling at the Alpha beside me. “Rhex, did you come here to kill her?!” Nero snapped. “What does it look like?” Rhex replied calmly. “How dare you?” Nero snarled. “She’s an Omega,” Rhex said coldly. “What could she possibly do? Isn’t it better for her to die than stay alive?” I heard footsteps getting closer. “Don’t you feel ashamed, getting fat on this thing?” “Don’t you dare,” Nero growled. “Get your filthy hands off my collar, Nero,” Rhex warned. “Before I rip them off. This wouldn’t end well if we fight here. You know what happens if he finds out.” “f**k you.” Rhex chuckled. “Stay in line, Nero.” The second Alpha stepped closer to me. I felt his hand cover my mouth. Warm liquid dripped into my mouth. “You know what happens if my blood keeps dripping,” he said. Each drop slapped against my lips. I pressed them together, fighting to keep it out. My mouth trembled, losing strength. The pain in my abdomen grew unbearable. Death was the only thought left in my mind. My senses blurred. I couldn’t… feel… my wolf anymore. Sheila. I called her name again and again inside my head. She didn’t answer. Was this it? Was I going to be like this forever? Silence filled the room. “That’s more like it,” he said, pulling his hand away.
