Chapter 14: SHADOWS OVER THE CITY
The streets of Chicago had become a battlefield overnight. Smoke rose from shattered buildings, the metallic tang of blood and ozone filling the air. The storm from the previous night still lingered, heavy clouds rolling across the skyline, lightning sparking in jagged bolts over the skyscrapers. Shadows moved unnaturally among the ruins, dark creatures summoned by Aether and Elena, their howls and shrieks echoing off the concrete walls like a chorus of death.
Kevin crouched atop the roof of a partially collapsed building, his massive wolf form bristling as he surveyed the devastation. His golden eyes glowed faintly beneath the storm’s dim light, scanning for the slightest movement. Every instinct screamed danger. Every sense was alive.
