Chapter 9 – Not a Chance

Chapter 9 – Not a Chance * * * There is nothing, not a single person inside my apartment. I left my door open as a safety precaution. Silence enveloped my body from head to toe. It was naturally cold inside my apartment, but the chill that I am feeling is different from what I had before. A stranger entered my room. He used my bed and my bathroom. Fixed my things and brought them back to where they belonged. The fact that someone was able to do that only means that he knows me from who-knows-when. The chill turned into a nightmare when I realized that I did not even notice his presence the entire time. If not for that molester, then I would have stayed the same old Ada that he can easily follow. A woman whom he can swallow anytime he wants. “No way! How could this be?” Fear weakened my knees when I received a different confirmation. My alarm clock – the reason for my cold sweat, cannot be found on top of my table. Slowly, as if I was walking on the moon, I slowly traced the path between me and my bed. I could clearly see how my hands trembled as I gently lifted the pillow. And much to my shock, the missing clock is hiding safely underneath it. Loss and baffled. My brain failed to work for a moment as I tried to digest all the information that I had in mind. True, I was sleepy and tired when I checked my phone, but not to the point where I would hallucinate and create my own version of this room. It hurts as I pull my hair to force myself to think logically. And as I started to lose hope, my eyes caught the closed bathroom door. I had seen every corner of my room except for that space. Slowly and without a single sound, my body moved to approach the remaining hidden part of my apartment. This time, I did not foolishly approach my destination since my hand found its way to my baseball bat. I’ve never been a fan of any sport but keeping one as a weapon is the smartest thing that I have done in my life. Steadily, I reached out to the doorknob and tried to turn it without making a single noise. I was hunching a little to prepare for whatever surprise was awaiting my way. Little by little… Controlling my breath… Not batting an eye… I successfully opened the door and prepared my weapon in case someone jumped in my face. However, after all that effort, what my eyes witnessed next was a vacant and cold bathroom. There is not a single trace of a person who visited it. There was not even a single strand of hair that my intruder carelessly left. For some reason, disappointment registered in my entirety as I closed the door once again. A ghost? Am I being hunted? No. Let’s not jump to a stupid conclusion. A ghost leaving a pubic hair is the most stupid thing that I ever heard in my entire life. There is no way that such a vile, perverted apparition would be able to do that. I bit my lips and pulled the phone from my pocket. If the alarm clock was not moved from where I put it, then it only means that someone either placed it back under my pillow or something is wrong with my surveillance camera. Any kind of scientific explanation will instantly remove the headache that I am suffering from. “Hahaha, What the hell? What the hell is happening in this place?” I felt like I would go insane as I watched the video being shown on my phone. It was the same room, except for the fact that my alarm clock was on top of my table, and I was not in the image. Just my f*****g room, without a single person in it. Without me, without the owner who is currently going crazy inside that very room. “Someone rigged my precious cameras. The audacity!” I momentarily stopped moving and looked at one of the cameras that I hid in my apartment. They became useless the moment I discovered the trick my intruder used. What a sly fox. He deserves a crown for taking things up to this point. I was left with no choice but to move on to a new apartment. Staying in this place is the same as giving that punk permission to continue his shenanigans. I packed some basic necessities and ran out of the room. Looking for another place to stay is my priority for now. I can just pick up the rest of my stuff after I secure a new apartment. For now, more than anything else, I just want to sleep in a room that can’t be invaded by another person. “Ada? Is that you? Wow! I never thought that I would see you at this time of the day.” That familiar voice and irritating pitch. I smiled and turned around to face the prime suspect that I had in mind. “John, hi, it has been a while. Oh, yeah, we have an emergency at work. My boss asked me to stay the night, so I got back home to pick up some stuff.” John might have been a smart ass, but there is no way that he will figure that it was just a lie and that I was running away from him. “I see, then, you will be back tomorrow?” None of your business. I wanted to slap those words to his face, but a bright smile flashed on my face instead. I’m not that stupid to spill the dark thoughts going through my mind. “I’m not sure. We are in the busy season, and I brought enough clothes to last for a week…” John was unable to hide the disappointment in his face as I announced my schedule. He has nothing to do with it, yet here he is acting like a man due to be separated from his lover. What a disgusting act for a certified stalker. “… Sorry. I have to go now. See you later.” “See you. Keep safe.” A little grin escaped my lips as I walked away from him. I’ll see you when I see you, John. But never will I wish to see you ever again. * * * It was almost midnight before I managed to find a new apartment. I might have used all my luck, since finding this gem is not an easy fleet. A place the same price as my last and is a lot nicer than it seems. I certainly hit the jackpot when I heard the owner talking about the new space that he wanted to rent. I grabbed it the moment I heard the price and visited the place. This is perfect in every sense. Needless to say, the room is currently empty since I needed to transfer all of my belongings from my last apartment. I needed to sneak out and tell my landlady my plan without letting her son into our conversation. That would be the hardest thing to do. Beep. Beep. Beep. I almost dropped the cup noodle that I was eating when my phone rang off. It was the signal that someone had entered my other apartment. This is a feature added to my rigged surveillance camera. I know that it was futile to check, yet my curiosity won over logic, and I still find myself opening my phone. Checking wouldn’t hurt since I was already in a safe place. The notification might have been a carelessness from my stalker’s end, and I could only cry since I couldn’t do anything about it. A rigged camera could never be a piece of proper evidence to the police. Those people will never act just because of a cheap product that could be bought anywhere. I need actual footage to pin down John and send him inside the jail. “No way!” And like an answered prayer, the piece of evidence that I was meaning to have is being shown to my eyes. John, my stalker, is currently inside my apartment without a single piece of cloth in his body.
