Chapter 7 – The Pubic Hair Mystery

Chapter 7 – The Pubic Hair Mystery * * * I grabbed the towel that I tucked into my doorknob and wrapped it around my body. My hands automatically reached out to the lock and checked if I was truly safe inside my own bathroom. Calming myself and thinking things through is the best action that I could do at this moment. This is no longer a by-product of my encounter with that molester. Someone spent their time inside my apartment while I was away from work. This is a gated building and only those who live here can walk in and out of the place. Even the delivery personnel could only wait in the lobby. “John? No, but who else?” My butt reached the cold floor of the bathroom. I curled my body like I usually do inside my cabinet and did not even bother using the toilet seat. The first piece of evidence that I have was found in that place. Who knows what the trespasser is doing in this room for him to drop that disgusting hair? I’d rather feel the cold floor than imagine myself sitting in the same location that the intruder used. A good minute passed by before I decided to step out of my bathroom. I hastily grabbed some clothes and wore them without hesitation. Neither the bath nor the book matters to me now. My safety had been compromised the moment that I saw that disgusting strand of hair. John aside, I seriously need to get down to the bottom of it and decide whether I pack my bags to find another place. I can’t bear to think that someone can just come and go inside my unit as much as they wanted. Just like that time. Going back to my old life is the last thing that I wanted to do. I look all over my room and check every little thing that I have. Nothing is missing and everything is still in order. Unlike in my bathroom, I did not find a single strand of hair inside my room. However, a shiver was sent through my body when I finally reached my bed. It was neat, yes, but warm as well. The air conditioner opened right after I entered my unit, and I haven’t laid down even once on top of it. This warmth can only be transferred through body contact. Someone used my precious bed, and I couldn’t have been angrier than that. My sacred space, which I treasure the most after my cabinet, has been invaded by someone else. It was an unforgivable act, yet I couldn’t do anything about it. Not that I don’t want to, but due to the fact that I am not even sure who it was. John is still my primary suspect and he will only be cleared of those suspicions when another i***t made it to my eyes. And whoever it is, I’ll be sure to find it out in no time. * * * “All set. Now let’s test these cuties…” I opened my secondhand laptop and checked the newly installed camera. Leaving this place is my number one option, but I wanted to have peace of mind as well. Escaping from this place without clearing anything is the same as saying that I should bury the identity of that person in the back of my mind. I need to know who I should be wary of. Transferring to another place would be a pathetic move if my stalker decided to pursue me up to that point. I, at least, need to be ready. “… Perfect.” I spent a fortune on all these mini cameras that I will soon remove when I move to another apartment. However, the comfort that it will bring is a priceless piece that my money can’t give to me. And before I went to bed that night, I made sure that the new lock was working as intended. I bought an automatic lock that could only be opened using my fingerprints. Lucy knew that I had installed this thing since I needed to ask for some help from a mechanic. Letting a stranger enter this place is the greatest sin that could be done in this building. Needless to say, my nights still turned into a round of sleepless darkness. The little scratches made my consciousness forget about the sleepiness that should have dawned on me. Even the most pathetic sounds created an atmosphere that I can’t bear while lying helplessly on top of my bed. What if my stalker decides to visit me tonight? What would happen to me if he happened to a burly man who knows no mercy? What if it was John, and Lucy decided to help her son to whatever grimace he had in mind? Different horrible situations ran through my brain as I stared into the darkness of my room. I am scared. The face of that molester visited my mind every single time I tried to close my eyes. I thought that I had forgotten him, but his image is still clear in my current state. Seeing that man standing in the corner of my room would be the worst scene that my brain could come up with at that particular moment. I couldn’t help but curse the hell out of my oozing imagination. And much to my dismay, my sleepless nights continued until Monday. I feel like a zombie while preparing for work. My efforts were completely wasted when not a single thing happened during my entire weekend. Not even the shadow of my stalker made it to my door. I’m not sure if I could consider this emotion as a hurtful disappointment, or if I should be thankful that nothing noteworthy took place. It would have been the latter if not for the evacuation that I was planning to commence right after I caught the intruder red-handed. I need his presence more than anything else. Cooperation, dear. Just show yourself in front of my camera and everything will be over. I will just hand it over to the police, and move to another apartment, far from that person. After all, running without a single plan in mind is the same as saying that I’m inviting him over to my new apartment. And I’m not that stupid to waste my time like that. My plan was put on hold as I decided to work. I can’t let myself be affected by a person who can’t build up the courage to talk to me face-to-face. The only source of income that I have needs to be prioritized more than anything else. “Ada, we have new arrivals. I will leave the inventory to you.” “Okay. I’ll be right back.” I immediately excused myself to do what Ana asked. Spending time alone inside the storage is a good excuse to check my phone. Who knows what is happening inside my house while I am busy at work? My hands did not waste any more time and opened the application connected to the cameras. Thug. Thug. Thug. My fingers started to shake as I navigated through my phone. Different scenarios flashed through my mind as the application slowly loaded. It pissed me off a little that I needed to wait a little longer just to check my own place. What if my pursuer is already on his way out of my house? More insidious thoughts made it to my brain. However, all of it came to a stop when my phone flashed the images before my eyes. Nothing. There was nothing inside my house except for the same old furniture that I have since two years ago.
