Ch 2

Sam "F*ck, I can’t do this." "It’s not even a big deal, Sam. Plenty of Alphas take a chosen mate. It's the most common way to create an alliance." "Dad. You can't be serious. It's not common at all. And I'm also not five. You can't trick me anymore." My dad chuckles at that. He’s always been great at convincing me to do anything if he makes up a believable story to go with it. But this is different. I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life with someone I don’t love. Someone who is not my mate. I'm not sure why we are even rushing this. I'm only 20; there is plenty of time to find my mate. "Son, be rational. Lily is a great girl. She’s smart, beautiful, and savvy when it comes to politics. She'd make a great Luna to the pack, not to mention a strong partner for you to lean on." He has valid points. He's just leaving out one thing. There's a reason he didn't say she is kind, loving, caring, or fun. She is the epitome of "all business." "I need more time to think about it. This is a huge decision and I'm not comfortable making it after having it sprung on me 15 minutes ago," I state firmly, showing that I will not be bullied into this. "Okay, Samuel. But don't take too long. They're expecting an answer and want to come visit as soon as possible." I nod and roll my eyes as he turns to leave. Once the door is shut behind him, I slump down in my chair. I really have no intention of entering this agreement, but I don’t know how to get my father to see my side of this. Could I learn to love Lily? Not likely. The mere thought of having to sleep with her makes me shudder. I have saved myself for my mate. Which has not been an easy task as a young Alpha. As I'm lost in my thoughts, my Beta knocks on the office door. "Come in, Jackson." "Alpha," he nods, "I have some paperwork for you to sign off on. They had to make some Omega staff changes." He hands me the stack of papers and I quickly scribble a signature on each one. He raises an eyebrow at me and it all but makes me lose my mind. "What?" I snap. He holds his hands up and shakes his head. "Nothing, man. Just seems like you didn't even take a peek at those as you signed them." "Why would I? It doesn't matter to me who cooks and cleans as long as it gets done. And if they're moving up, I'm sure they're deserving of the raises. No reason fussing over any of it. I've got more important matters to deal with." "Yeah, I heard your dad is trying to force you to take a mate." He looks uncomfortable as he says this. Jackson is my best friend. He knows how important finding a mate has been to me since we were kids, and he feels the same way about it. "Dude. What am I going to do? There is no way in hell I can be happy with Lily." I sigh as I run my hands down my face. I need a plan to get out of this. And fast.
