Lori the Lost sat alone in the room . . . her room now. It boasted a bed and one chair, wooden and uncomfortable, and only one light—a bare bulb hanging from a long cable from the middle of the ceiling. The bulb wasn’t enough to fully illuminate the room, so shadows clung to the corners. Darkness seeped out from under the bed upon which she sat. The mossy green stone walls surrounding her were rotten and stained in several spots, and the dank air and mold made her nauseated. There was no window, and she knew if she tried the door, she would find it locked. They had put her here to be forgotten. Every once in a while the light bulb would flicker, threatening to go out.
